Re: Garden birds

We haven't seen sparrows or greenfinches for years, though we've always put bird food out. Greenfinch populations have been hit by a disease.

We see quite a few from the above lists, but can add:...

Re: Say Hello to The Bund

Ah yes - founded by Sun Yat Sen early last century and later led by Chian Kai Chek (sp?). Does the Kuomintang still exist in Taiwan (previously Formosa)?

Re: Tonights full moon

I always admire these moon shots, but often wonder what they offer compared to (say) a Mount Palomar shot! It's not as if you can take a shot from a different angle, lighting conditions or weather...

Re: Scotland - recommendation about itinerary

I'm just wondering what Scotland would offer over Sweden?

Mountains and lochs/lakes: I would think that Sweden is at least as well endowed as Scotland.

Birds: Again, I would think that Sweden...

Yorkshire Flooding.

I hope that our Yorksire subscribers are unaffected by the flooding, but I wonder if 'Otto' is OK because he's gone quiet the past few days. ISTRC he lives by a river.

Re: Windows 10

As an amateur I've dabbled with many programming languages, including 'C' and 'C++', but if I were to start again, I'd choose Python or Perl - Python because it's a modern language that's much used...

Re: Campus censorship Ďan epidemicí at UK universities?

My partner's friend's husband's father was in the Wermacht during the war as a young man. He went A.W.O.L. and was eventually caught. He was sentenced to a prison term. His mother appealed and the...

Re: Windows 10

I think that I've got a spare copy of 'Stroustrup' somewhere, if you like. You're welcome to it - just P.M. me your address.

Re: Campus censorship Ďan epidemicí at UK universities?

I sometimes wonder whether an abrupt end to someones life is easier to deal with, compared to the person you know being progressively 'stolen' from you over years by dementia or Alzheimer's.

Re: SRF-11 - is there a 3rd party version of this?

I've got the Mecablitz 'ring flash' and find that it works well:

Re: Campus censorship Ďan epidemicí at UK universities?

"Sweetness and light" is a bit anodyne for my taste. I prefer discussions to be a bit 'edgey'!

Re: Campus censorship Ďan epidemicí at UK universities?

I was of the age when I should have served, but because of my apprenticeship I was 'deferred'. By the time I'd finished my apprenticeship, National Service had been abolished.

Re: Campus censorship Ďan epidemicí at UK universities?

No, I also left school and served an apprenticeship. I was a bit of a 'loner' and I think that the experience of National Service would have cured me of it.

Re: Campus censorship Ďan epidemicí at UK universities?

I just missed National Service and was glad at the time that I did - but I often think that it would have done me good in my late teens.

Re: Calibrating monitor(s)

Printer profiling problem now sorted.

The profiling went OK and soft proofing also looked OK, but the printed output had a heavy yellow cast. I have a Canon iP7250 printer and for some reason the...

Re: Vikings and Fireworks

Ask them it they'd do a re-enactment of the Battle of Stanford Bridge; when they come over in 200 ships and the survivors went back in 20, carrying their dead king! ;)

Did you try the gents urinal at Corfe? It's an authentic 50s experience, complete with smell. It's got the big masonry slabs separating the bays (I'd forgotten about them!).

I understand that the...

Re: Boris Gate

Don't confuse Sinn Fein (a political party) with the Irish Republican Army. Sinn Fein may be the political wing of the IRA, but they are not the IRA.

Re: Boris Gate

I just wonder about the above.

I'm not very keen on Corbyn, but feel that it's very unlikely that he would get the support that he does, if he actually supports terrorist organisations.

Re: Boris Gate

So are you saying that at the end of a year's work in which you earned £5000, you owed the exchequer £6800. Didn't the Chancellor of the Exchequer see the flaw in this?
