Re: Communal Night-Sky Photography Thread

I do not have the patience to do 3 or 5 passes with filters at the moment. I have tried a Ha filter on my OMD-EM1MII with no success. First I spent too long trying to get focus then DSS would not...

Re: Communal Night-Sky Photography Thread

I think that's an amazing image for your first time of trying Milkyway Mark. You picked a difficult choice of background to stack MW images. Wires and frames are very challenging for the advanced...

Re: Communal Night-Sky Photography Thread

Sadly Phil it was only my back garden for a week. We stayed in a South Devon holiday cottage and I took my astro gear because of the potential for dark skies. Unfortunately Storm Lorenzo paid a...

Re: Communal Night-Sky Photography Thread

I saw an image of the Tulip Nebula in the Oct edition of Astronomy Now captured with narrowband filters. It was a wow as an image and as session he took a two-panel mosaic in the Hubble palette. He...

Re: Communal Night-Sky Photography Thread

No field flatter. I am trying to avoid glass in the imaging train. I did not use 8mins exposure on this one. I tried 8mins to see what it looked like. I have not tried guiding with this mount...

Re: Communal Night-Sky Photography Thread

It does look a bit scary but when you consider each bit works on its own it seems to come together. The problem is forgetting to do something in sequence.

The setup has now been upgraded with an...

Re: Using composite for star trails

yes the background exposure needs to be exposed to your liking. I normally do some test frames in manual mode and when I get the balance of exposure I use those settings in the composite setting.

Re: Astro Photos

Had some really good clear nights recently.

The Bubble Nebula NGC7635 represents the limit I think for my current set up using the OMD EM1 MKII and RC6 telescope It is a magnitude 10 (dim light)...

Re: Astro Photos

We have had 4 or 5 nights of clear skies I am in need of sleep as I have been doing 4hrs + of images per night!

Re: Astro Photos

Thanks Dave I did see this on the Startools forum hidden away but I think the major improvements are in the LRGB processing side. I am not at that stage yet so most of my Olympus processing is done...

Re: Astro Photos

Thanks for heads up on this Dave. It took some searching on the startools forum. Not sure how much of an update this is as still trying to find out whats improved.

Re: Astro Photos

Generally speaking for astrophotography cold nights are much better because the sensor temperature will be lower, and its the heat in the sensor that makes the noise generally. The longer you keep...

Re: Astro Photos

Mark It was a visit to your country that got me into astrophotography. We had a silver service dinner at Uluru (Ayers Rock). The night sky was just so amazing I tried to take a picture and failed...

Re: Astro Photos

After months of deliberation I decided to upgrade my mount and change to a mirror lens but still use my mirrorless OMD EM1 MKII camera.

I have gone for the iOptron CEM25EC with an iOptron RC6...

Re: Communal Night-Sky Photography Thread

Chers Dave. I tried the flats calibration files and found them limiting. First I found dust bunnies can move when I change the battery and you need flats exactly as your camera and lens are...

Re: Communal Night-Sky Photography Thread

Thanks Dave

For this image I only used 15 dark frames in DSS. I also processed it without dark frames and to be honest I can only see a slight improvement over the dark frame subtraction. I think...

Re: Communal Night-Sky Photography Thread

Just like to add to what Dave has already said. Yes such an image is possible with Oly equipment and a Star Adventurer with many riders. It would need an 300mm F4 lens + the MC1.4. You would need...

Unhappy Re: ISO is Fake - Seriously

Re: ISO is Fake - Seriously

My understanding is that bracketing does not merge the images. With ISOBKT it takes the 3 frames with whatever ISO value you have set +/- the step. It only takes one shutter button press to create...
