Re: Oulton Park BTCC 2019

It does indeed :)
Most of the normal spectator spots on the outside of the circuit are too far from where I have to work. I have managed the outside of the start finish straight when I knew in...

Re: Oulton Park BTCC 2019

Makes them even more impressive then, it looks like you've managed to get to spots I can't get to with a Pit lane pass! (Having to be in the pits for the end of each session severely limits my...

Re: OMD + 12-100 an overpriced bridge camera?

The huge zoom range of the 12-100 means it can be used in a similar way to bridge cameras. It will give better results than most (if not all) of them used in this way.

To me though the big...

Re: Honestly, do you like autofocus?

Certainly beats the annoying 'pictures not quite focused' which I've had a lot. Practically any time I try manually focusing & don't magnify the view...

Re: A downside of not having an Anti-aliasing filter?

I suppose with cameras it will often produce coloured patterns (due to the bayer matrix) but most of the occurrences I've seen direct have certainly been monochrome.

This sort of issue is...

Re: Flickr down 21 hours and counting...

When I checked their status page late last night it was back for some users to test. I wasn't among them then, but they are gradually rolling it out again. I could log in this morning at 8.20 but it...

Re: Step down ring...60mm to 55mm required.

60mm is indeed an odd size, used as intermediates on some of my screw together extension tubes. I had to make do with a 58mm one, and combine it with 2 other stepping rings & a coupling ring. I...

They're readily available for ~60 new (which should guarantee mint)

Re: Have a beer on me

I can't think of any other Greene King beer as disappointing as their IPA yet somehow it's their best seller.
Abbot, their XX mild & Old Bob are much better IMO. Before they watered it down in the...

Re: Short Spring UK visit

The town houses don't do much for me & I don't see why they deserve the dot, but most of the other shots are really impressive & make me think being sent to Coventry may not be such a bad thing :)...

Re: Hands E-M1X on at Brands Hatch

Thing have changed a lot there, Jason's changed teams, sponsors & number. For many years he's run under no 99.

I wasn't able to make the demo as I was working at Brands Hatch over the weekend! So near yet so far...

Re: So how Polycamerous are you?

I currently use 4 different digital systems, MFT (G5 & modified GF2), NEX6, an old Sigma SD14 & Pentax DSLRs (K5ii ,K7 & K100d). I adapt lenses on all of them too.

I also have specialised...

Re: Flash Diffuser

I have a huge range of those things around at work, from A4 & bigger down to around 1" across.
I'll have to experiment & find which sizes best fit my different flashes. :)

Re: RMS Thread Adapters

You can't reduce the length of the cone (infinite objectives are easiest if close coupled to the lens) ;)

If you've already got an adapter to filter threads you've avoided the issue.

I can...

Re: RMS Thread Adapters

RMS is 0.8" 36 tpi, so no M25 isn't RMS, JIS might be the same even though I've seen it listed as 20.8mm.
There are Nikon CF160 Infinite series objectives in 25mmx0.75 but they're the only...

Re: ISO is Fake - Seriously

The DIN part of the scale which is the bit after the slash & frequently left off is actually the logarithmic part, while the ASA portion is Linear. The speed you referred to is officially ISO 100/21...

Re: ISO is Fake - Seriously

I know of two for film:
ISO 5800 for colour negative
ISO2240 for Black & white

For digital we have ISO 12232 which apparently has 5 different techniques that can give different results. There...

Re: ISO is Fake - Seriously

The ISO values many of today's cameras reach are above any defined in any ISO standards. I suspect the problem is the length of time it takes to approve ISO methods, which is generally many years.

No, as I stated its the 150-500 OS, There are many sigma lenses with nicknames most of them are more than I can afford, sometimes vastly so like the Sigmonster IIRC.

Re: Plastic Fantastic

Yes that lens has the same nickname, and is I think somewhat better known by it.

Nicknames have a habit of being picked up & used for other things, but still they can be fun.
