Re: Damselflies attracted to our pond

They are lovely shots which allow us to share their world on an appropriate level. I have watched large reds mating and ovipositing but like you never seen emergence. Of all of the damsels they are...

Re: Communal Dragonfly, Butterfly and Insect photo thread

I'd be interested to know if you saw any apparent 'feeding' or just a quick rest on a surface. Observation of that would be helpful.

Although they are ravenous carnivores needing to eat huge...

Re: Communal Dragonfly, Butterfly and Insect photo thread

Every so often experts fly to somewhere expensive and stay in an exotic hotel and rename things. In the butterfly world it is often the latin family names that change, they sometimes agree that a new...

Re: Communal Dragonfly, Butterfly and Insect photo thread

It is a real pleasure to see the numbers of Small Tortoiseshells this year. They crashed a few years back and have been very low in numbers since. That will have been a combination of factors...

Re: I do need to find time to take more pictures so...

I admit I was 'helped' into agreeing a company voluntary redundancy scheme, I resisted at first because I was only in my early 50s, but I'm so glad - with hindsight - as...

Re: Communal Dragonfly, Butterfly and Insect photo thread

Those are wonderful. The eye on the bug is exquisite. And the proboscis too.

I have no idea how you get the depth of focus you do with the high magnification. I applaud all of the macro...

Re: Communal flowers, trees, plants and fungi thread

A lovely sight and picture

It is a cornflower, a once common part of the cornfield alongside poppies and some much scarcer and lovely wild flowers. But as most UK fields are dosed with herbicides...

Re: Steady, you'll have someone's eye out with that!
