Yes it's the hld-8g without the battery section. It obviously adds the bulk of the hand grip, with the benefit of a working button/dial, but only adds about 1cm to the height of the body. Weight...

I have the 5mkii with 12-40 and would say it's definitely usable without a grip.... But.... It's significantly better with the grip. It doesn't add much weight or bulk either (just grip not a battery...

The Dorr one comes with both options as standard, you can rotate the whole head or just the clamp. The benefit of the latter is that you don't need the tripod to be perfectly level, just the clamp...

That's the tripod and head i've just upgraded from (mines the aluminium version). They served me well for a couple of years and would have continued to do so..... Need and Want are too different...

I've treated myself to a new set of tripod legs and ballhead.

After looking at a lot of options, I ended up with a less than obvious brand of ballhead. I got a Dörr XB36, it's nice and compact,...

I pretty much do landscape 99% of the time, so yes but that's ok. I rarely even take my camera out unless I'm specifically going for a landscape shot! Family snaps on days out etc are with my phone....
