Re: Panasonic 100-400

In the light of the 3.1 firmware update for the EM1ii should I use IBIS or lens IS with the 100-400?

Re: Olympus 14-150 mm II f/5.6

Whether you will miss the 12mm depends on what you like to photograph. I found the 14-150ii very soft at the wide end compared to the 12-40 so no longer have it. If you're on a tight budget I'd be...

Re: Adventures with the 300/4 and MC20

I've only managed one snake photo in the wild in the UK and that was an adder the dog nearly stepped on. In late November (!) last year my young dog was bitten by an adder and the vet's bill was an...

Re: Adventures with the 300/4 and MC20

If I could only take one lens it would be the 100-400 because it is the most versatile. You don't really get the opportunity to change lenses or add or subtract teleconverters (I do have the MC14...

Adventures with the 300/4 and MC20

I bought the 300 not long after it was launched. I discovered that my example had some focussing issues and by the time they had been sorted (under HDEW warranty) I had acquired the PanaLeica...

Re: Third party batteries for the EM1ii (and EM1X)

I've now ended up with a mix - Green Cell, Patona Platinum and ExPro. They all have different capacities which in turn are different from the OEM. As far as I can see they all work well and are...

Re: Third party batteries for the EM1ii (and EM1X)

Not having had the older batteries I'm not in a position to comment but my post did say the early problems seem to have been overcome. There is no error message and the %age charge shows.

Re: Third party batteries for the EM1ii (and EM1X)

Yes it is. I didn't note how long it took to charge and in any case the batteries are part charged on arrival. I get a sense it takes longer than with an Oly one, but can't be sure. That may be...

Re: Third party batteries for the EM1ii (and EM1X)

ExPro are now selling on Amazon what seems to be a newer version of their BLH1 equivalent. It claims to be fully decoded and rates at 2450mAh which is amongst the best. I charged it in the ExPro...

EM1i

Having acquired a second EM1ii my backup EM1i and HLD7 are now surplus to my requirements. Neither shows any significant signs of use and the shutter count is only 5,949. Firmware 4.5. Both are in...

Re: Which of these would be of interest?

I already have all (more than all!) the lenses I'm likely to need but might try the 150-400 when it appears.

Re: Olympus developing a new 500mm lens?

Have a look at my posts from earlier this year about the cost of going to the Kruger which is very significantly cheaper than Sabi Sands and similar reserves. You'll see the same animals as there's...

Re: Olympus developing a new 500mm lens?

That is fair comment in Europe but in Africa you often get quite close to very large animals. Whilst my main lens is the 100-400 I always have the 40-150 or even 12-100 to hand for those...

Re: More Interest in M4/3 Recently?

I was in a hide at Lackford Lakes in late August and was surprised/pleased to see that two of the other three occupants had EM1x and 300/4. The fourth was lugging a great Canon lens around but I'd...

Re: More Interest in M4/3 Recently?

One should normally avoid posting comparison photos but in view of the topic and that the comparison is with non MFT kit I thought this might encourage a switch.

Re: Olympus developing a new 500mm lens?

My preference for African wildlife is a zoom but if you want more than the 100-400 can manage then the 300/4+MC20 is the only option at the moment. It's good for birds. Maybe I'll be tempted when...

Re: Olympus developing a new 500mm lens?

I'm not sure this wildlife photographer - just booked 16 days in the Kruger for February - will be in the stampede. That price will be more than the whole holiday for two.

It's huge compared to the 100-400.

Re: Could do with some guidance.

Between them the 14-54 or 12-60 plus the 50-200 (an excellent lens) will cover most of what you need and are easily transferred to an EM1 outfit if you decide to move. I had an E620 and liked it...
