Re: Jammed lens hood on the f4 300mmPro

I wouldn’t use silicone lubricants on a lens body. Silicones are known to migrate and are difficult to remove, making a mess of an optical surface if they got onto it. If applied to the barrel of a...

Re: Lexar 1000x 32 GB

Are you importing into lightroom directly from the card? If so, try copying onto the iMac hard drive first. Assuming you can copy them, then that suggets the card is being read correctly by the iMac....

Re: E-M5 III reviews

Thank for for that, which is the sort of feedback I was wanting. Also useful to know you found the AF in the Mk2 was a big step up from the Mk1.

Re: E-M5 III reviews

I'm just under 6'1" and my hands are no where near that big. But I find the EM1 Mk1 results in pain in my right hand after prolonged use which i don't get with the bigger Canon. This is probably...

Re: E-M5 III reviews

Pick up a bag of potatoes. Is it easier to hold it at arms length or next to your body? The latter, obviously. When the centre of gravity is further away from the body, it is much harder to hold...

Re: E-M5 III reviews

I would be genuinely interested to hear in what ways the the MkII would be a 'very significant upgrade'. I find the image quality of the Mk1 to be excellent, so it is hard for me see how much more I...

Re: E-M5 III reviews

PDAF is important for anyone using the old 4/3 lenses, but that must be a diminishing market. PDAF is also important for fast AF in action photography. However, action photography is usually done...

Re: macOS update & compatability issues

Thanks for the warning about Lightroom. I had hoped it would be ok. Mind you, I am still running High Sierra since and don’t normally upgrade until the version I am running has ceased to be supported...

Re: Recomendation Wide Angle Lens 4thirds for E510 Olympus camera

I think the cheapest option will be the Zuiko Digital 9-18 mm lens, but I am not sure you will get one for 100. Ffordes Have one listed at 159, so I would expect a private sale on ebay to go for a...

Re: Extended Warranties

I agree with all your points. Both my EM1 Mk1s have been to Portugal to have faults fixed (rear dial and rubber grip falling off). Given this experience I would buy the extra warranty for the Mk 2...

Re: WARNING: E-M1 Camera body eyelet has come away from camera body!

My second EM1 Mk1 body went to Portugal last year to have the part of the rubber grip that had fallen off replaced under warranty. When it came back, the service report said the lugs had been...

Re: 14-54 mk 1 and ex 25?

The official Olympus line is that it is not useable on the 14-54 except at 54mm focal length due to 'focusing impossibility'. Even at 54mm it will only focus from 17.2 to 22.2 cm. MF only.

So...

Re: LR error message

That error message is utter gibberish to me. As a computer dunce, this is what I would try:
1. Check the files on the card. Are they readable if opened directly?
2. Quit and restart LR. I find...

Re: 100mm F2.8 ED UMC MACRO

There's a detailed review on Lenstip

Re: Where to host files for controlled sharing?

I use Google Photos. Storage is free and unlimited as long as each picture is smaller than (I think) 15MB. You can create an album and share it via an email link. You can share your entire library...

Re: HDEW..Ridiculous price.

They do have some very good prices on Olympus lenses at the moment. For example they have the 45mm f1.2 Pro at 689. Compare that to 1049 from SRS.

Re: Best practice external hard drives

Unfotunately not true in my case because i also tried. This might be a limitation of the Western Digital software based RAID.

Re: Best practice external hard drives

Unless you need your discs to be read by Windows PCs, stick with a standard Mac HFS+ journaled format. (There is a new format for Mojave, but I don't think you can format external HDs in it at the...

Re: Best practice external hard drives

IMHO, this is another disadvantage of the mirrored RAID. You are stumped until you replace the faulty drive, which means you need a spare drive on hand to avoid delays. This is fine in a enterprise...

Coming back to the OP, can you clarify the situation? You say you have 2x4TB back-ups, but also say the iPhoto library is on the external drives not on the MBP. This sounds to me like one of the 4TB...
