Re: Calibrating monitor(s)

I'm far from an expert on color calibration, but I have started using DisplayCal with my MacBook Pro/Catalina and ColorMunki Smile. The software for the ColorMunki Smile was 32 bit and no longer...

Re: I'm at the big Olympus Photokina launch!

Looks like a fantastic camera, but I've not seen anything official (i.e. no mention of it on the Olympus website specifications) regarding backwards compatibility with the older 4/3 lenses.

Re: Rumoured E-M1 ii launch next week

Being that I'm still using the old E-system DSLR's (E-520, E-3 & E-5), I would like to know if the EM-1 II will still be fully compatible with the old 43rds lenses and with improved continuous...

Re: 2nd hand value: Cameras v Lenses

I'm in exactly the same position. If the 300mm f4 is fantastic, then I might consider a move to m43 in the future.

I recently switched from Aperture to Lightroom, and the RAW develop module is...

Re: Olympus unveils OM-D E-M5 Mark II

The upcoming 300mm f4 lens might be the ticket that brings me over m4/3. If the updated firmware improves the C-AF with the 300mm f4 to the level of the Canon 7D-II, then the EM-1 Mark II might be...

Re: Olympus unveils OM-D E-M5 Mark II

This appears to be an interesting camera, but the lack of PDAF is a show-stopper for me.

Re: This Years Photographic Lesson ?

My photographic lessons for this year are:

1. Buy a ColorMunki or some other type of monitor calibrator. The ColorMunki Smile was about $70, and I should have bought one years ago.

2. Make more...

Re: Olympus Capture looks excellent

Ok, so the problem I had with Studio 2.3 not running in 64 bit mode was a Mac OS X issue back in the Snow Leopard days. Tethering did work in Studio when booting in 32 bit mode, but not in 64 bit...

Re: Olympus Capture looks excellent

As best as I can tell from looking around at different photo forums, Olympus Capture only supports the OM-D EM-1 with version 2 firmware.

I have not been able to find any official statement from...

Re: Olympus Capture looks excellent

I did download and install Olympus Capture, unfortunately as I anticipated, it does not work with my E-5 or XZ-1. I did not try my E-3 or my E-520.

Back in the day, I did purchase Olympus Studio...

Re: Apple pulled the plug on Aperture

I am not happy about Apple dumping Aperture, but then Olympus dumped 43rds for m43rds. Evolution I guess. My recommendation is if you want long-term support go with Canon and Lightroom. Going with...

Re: Apple pulled the plug on Aperture

I upgraded to Mavericks when it was released and the initial versions were okay. 10.9.2 and Aperture 3.5.1 did not work well on my mid-2009 MacBook Pro. Lots of crashes that required me to rebuild my...

Re: Rule of thirds eyepiece

As I understand, Olympus designed the 11 focus points for the E-3 and E-5 to be in the most used positions for photographs. See this article from Imaging Resource for more detail.

Re: Sigma 50-500

If it helps, I paid about $700 for mine a couple of months ago. I got it from Adorama, used in good condition with case and tripod mount, but missing the lens hood (I was able to order a new hood...

New to me Bigma

I wasn't planning on buying anymore 43rds mount lenses, but I saw a used Sigma 50-500mm last week and got it from Adorama. I am thinking that the m43 300mm f4 and any m43 teleconverters are a few...

Wow, I actually got to play with an E-M1 today!

I stopped by Southeastern Camera in Raleigh today, and they had a couple of OM-D E-M1 cameras in stock. Quite frankly, I was happy to see one here in the US, and I was very pleased that they let me...

Re: Sigma 10-20mm lens for E520

Based on my experience in the US, I can recommend both...

Re: More Olympus kit to come "Teaser" @ CES 2014

I am in the same boat. I loved the E-520, and thought the system looked good for my purposes back in 2008. So a bought several HG Zuiko Digital lenses, accessories and flashes. I later picked a...
