I am of the "if it aint broke, don't fix it" school. Regular cleaning whether or not needed only increases the risk of permanent damage. When the muck becomes obtrusive then I will clean it myself....

If you fancy a go at DIY, obtain a pack of Sugru in whatever colour takes your fancy and mould some up around your battery. Be sure to use a release agent though or you will have one heck of a job...

thanks for the comments. Number one was taken on a typically grey, dank Lakes day and the only bit of colour is a few yellow flowers.
