I found the 70-300 a good lens but it did need light to get the shutter speeds for BIF shots it also worked well for macro shots.
I would go for the 50- 200 if possible it is 2.8f and has a bigger...

Put some dry silicone spray on the lens barrel. I do this on all my zoom lenses and hood bayonets once a year. It keeps them smooth in operation.

Yes, when I'm carrying a single spare I keep it in a small ziplock clear plastic bag.
For two or three I use some hard plastic cases with a snap-lock that originally held 4 CR123 lithium batteries...

I use an appropriate size plastic bag, one per battery. The main purpose is to prevent foreign objects shorting the terminals, and secondly to keep the battery clean.

Maybe a bit big for your requirements, but I carry more batteries, particularly if away for the weekend; I use little neoprene zip up bags from Poundland.

Hard plastic case for BLN-1 batteries

At the moment I keep all my BLN-1 batteries in a very small sealable plastic bag, partly because they do not come with a base / terminal cover and partly to help protect the battery from dust etc....

For about a year or so now Olympus have stopped giving a 1 year "Worldwide Warranty" and only offer a regional warranty which in the case of Europe is 2 years. If you try to obtain warranty service...
