Re: want to learn portrait photography

My local camera club, sadly long defunct, had a talk once by a portrait photographer who worked exclusively in B&W and used tungsten lighting, i.e. normal incandescent bulbs in reflectors that were...

Re: want to learn portrait photography

Another great exponent of portrait photography to look at is Yousuf Karsh, often known as Karsh of Ottawa. His use of lighting to model the sitter's face is masterly.

Re: 4/3 50-200 f2.8

I have the SWD version and the E-M1ii and have just tested, linking via the MMF-3 adaptor. It would appear that Pro-Capture L is not available, being grayed out, but Pro-Capture H is there to select....

Re: Silhouette Macro

No worries, I'm happy to receive constructive comments :)

I was using that set-up in the expectation of shooting damselflies by our pond and find that it gives sufficient working distance to avoid...

Re: Silhouette Macro

You're right on both counts but I couldn't think of a better way to describe it. Unfortunately, to get closer to the hoverfly I would have had to stand in the pond. As I explained in the OP, this was...

Re: Damselflies attracted to our pond

Many thanks for the kind comments and the ID :)

The large reds were by far the most abundant, three pairs mating simultaneously at times, but there were also some blue/green ones (male/female?) in...

Damselflies attracted to our pond

This has been a good year for damselflies at our pond, which is now well established in its third summer. We have seen several husks left behind by newly emerged critters but have always been just to...

Re: Silverstone Moto GP 2019

Absolutely cracking shots, nos. 1, 5, 9 & 13 are my favourites, I just love panning shots from the inside, but they are all excellent *yes

Re: E-M1X 1999 at LCE

I clicked "Thanks" but now I'm in an agony of indecision, especially as I spent 599 on the 8mm f/1.8 just this afternoon ... I think it would be better to save for the 150-400 but this is so...

Silhouette Macro

I was sitting by our pond in the garden hoping for damselflies when I noticed a hoverfly perched in a shady area on the other side of the pond silhouetted against more distant sunlit foliage. I...

Re: MC 20 question...

Back in the days of film I took a similar series of shots, ranging IIRC from 21mm to 300mm, in preparation for a talk I gave at the local camera club. I also took a second series with the same lenses...

Re: Echinopsis Hybrid Razzle Dazzle (Form)

I can't seem to get the hang of the stereo pairs. I can make the bottom set into a row of six blooms but I don't think that's what is intended

What is the recommended distance between...

Re: The Yashica-Mat

I have my late father's Yashica-Mat. Unfortunately the shutter is broken; I had it repaired once but it failed again not long afterwards. It was given to my father by our elderly next-door neighbour,...

Re: Another very rare butterfly having a good year

Excellent images *yes

I wish Olympus would make a MFT equivalent of the Sigma 150mm f/2.8 FT lens, compatible with the 1.4x & 2x converters, weather sealed and compatible with pro-capture. The...

Re: Charger flashing amber. Normal?

I should have added that the light goes green when the battery is fully charged. I did have one Olympus battery that failed to charge, the orange light continued to flash even after several hours of...

Re: Charger flashing amber. Normal?

Yes, that is normal for the E-M1ii charger. The frequency of the flashes changes as the charge increases.

Re: E-M1X Terrific Red Kite Images

I used to travel up the A1 quite frequently when my daughter was at Leeds Uni and I often saw red kites near Stilton south of Peterborough. Somewhat flatter country than the Chilterns but something...

Re: Recommended reading

I have been using Darktable for raw processing. Like RawTherapee it is a free, non-destructive raw editor with all changes being recorded in sidecar files. Again like RawTherapee, the UI takes a...

I'd like an EM1-X but I think I'll wait until Olympus do the customary "free grip" offer

Re: Can you save/store AF point by orientation?

If I have understood the reviews correctly, this seems to be a feature of the new E-M1X. It would be nice if this functionality could be added to the E-M1ii in a firmware update, perhaps even for the...

Re: Steady Hand of the Year

Here are a couple from Crete, the harbour area of Agios Nikolaos by night. The combination of the E-M1 Mk2 and 12-100 f/4 is ludicrously capable of sharp, hand-held images at slow shutter speeds....

Re: New Olympus Patent: 400mm f4.0 MFT Lens

I have the Pana-Leica 100-400 and it is a cracking lens but if Olympus brought out an equivalent it would be tempting for two reasons. Firstly it would be nice to have image stabilisation in the lens...

Re: Amazon deal? E-M1 Mark ii with free grip 1369

It is a very good deal but the wife would kill me if I went for it, especially as I already have one :o
