No, not thistles Harold.
Will need to go and look at them again to be sure, the beetles were on flat leaves, the larvae were on thistle type leaves as I recall.

Just seen some images on BBC news site - at last London catches up with the provinces. We had most of these in Durham a couple of years ago !
