Re: C-AF preferring the background

Not in the water though so relatively easy. Just like this one

Re: C-AF preferring the background

As a point of interest how many of you who are offering solutions have actually photographed seals from a boat?

Re: C-AF preferring the background

Stopping down will not affect the AF because the camera performs AF with the lens wide open. At 50m the head of a bobbing seal is going to be rather small in the viewfinder and thus difficult for the...

Re: TG-5 vs Lumix GX800

To be honest this is an apples and oranges comparison. You should have dunked the GX800 in a bucket of water and then tested how well it performs ;) Action cameras are for recording memories not for...

Re: 4/3 Birding lens camera Combo

EM1MkII or EM1X with 300/f4 + plus a teleconverter.

As to pixels, I.Q. is sufficient to satisfy a number of well-known wildlife photographers such as Scott Bourne and recent convert Andy Rouse....

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

You might want to be a bit more selective about who you share your hide with ;) It's clearly a female Kestrel.

Re: Gone fishing...

I can't imagine a twitcher being interested in seeing an Osprey let alone spending money photographing one. Thinking about it, I don't think I'd spend 75 to get the same shots as everyone else...

Re: Default Custom Mode options OMD1 Mk2

I think you could well be right about that. It's worth remembering that this camera is aimed at professionals and experienced amateurs who know how they want their camera set up. It never actually...

Re: Default Custom Mode options OMD1 Mk2

Sadly, there isn't really one good setting for birds. Any particular set of settings I or anyone else could give you will be wrong most of the time. That would be more hindrance than help to you....

Re: Everything

Ztree Bold was was an Xtree clone originally written for OS/2. I had the very great privilege of working for a while with it's author, an extraordinarily talented Australian, in the early 90s. He...

HELP! Lens covers

Re: Lens covers

They don't help at all as part of a disguise. Birds seem to respond mainly to movement. The best thing to do is use a portable hide and wait for the birds to come to you.

Re: Battery suggestions E-M1

I've got some Ex-Pros for my EM-1. I'm not sure that they have quite the capacity of the genuine Olympus battery but on a cost/capacity basis I think they're very good value. I find that the Oly...

Re: Pecking pigeons

Nice photo :)

Wood Pigeons are one of the few species of birds we get in this country which can breed all year round.

Re: New MC 20 announced.

I'm sure that Olympus will be aiming to have the 150-400 available for the Olympics. I think they've designed it for covering track and field from the press area in mind hence the focal length and it...

Re: New MC 20 announced.

I tried but for some reason the MMF-3 wouldn't fit onto the MC-14. I've got an EC-14 and an EC-20 anyway so it was merely an academic exercise.

Re: How to snap a Mongoose at night without a flash?

The Mongoose isn't going to attack you unless you corner it and try to grab it. If it senses you're there it'll run away.

Photographing animals in the dark can be rather challenging. Even if you...

Re: New MC 20 announced.

Low light focusing with telephoto lenses and teleconverters isn't really an issue. You'll struggle to get a high enough shutter speed to freeze subject movement long before you hit the camera's low...

Re: v3 Firmware for mk2 - updates for mk2, m1x and lenses

That doesn't sound good. I get about 800 shots per battery. As a (rubbish) wildlife photographer I use C-AF quite a bit.

Re: How to snap a Mongoose at night without a flash?

It's most unlikely that the flash will scare the Mongoose although it it's any significant away getting the flash to throw that far will be challenging.

Re: Another photography workshop!

Badgers aren't actually that difficult to photograph once you've found the sett. Just remember to stay downwind at all times. It's a good idea to put up a camera trap for a while so that you can see...
