Re: Do We Rely Too Much on Electricity?

I know someone who works for National Grid and I spoke to him today about the power outage last week and about capacity planning in general. Contrary to what many have posted here, he would not...

Re: Slimming down - gauging interest...

Hi all - apologies to those that have sent PMs. We had a burglary at home which has been occupying time somewhat. None of the Oly gear has been pilfered thankfully, but I've been a bit diverted. ...

Re: Looking for a PenF

I think you really need black :) :

- The silver is painted, not metal. Scratches can reveal the base coat underneath. Not pretty!

- The black paint is more durable.

- Black is more...

Slimming down - gauging interest...

I'm not really doing so much photography these days so I'm thinking of slimming down my gear a little. The following are what I'm thinking of letting go:

- Olympus Pen-F. Black. Immaculate

-...

Re: Who cares??

On the litter front, this country is a disgrace. There have been no major public campaigns on litter for at least 30 years so far as I remember. We reap what we sow.

Along with Boris, Brexit...

Re: Who cares??

Litter dropping is not a sexuality thing so far as I know. I suspect it more closely correlates with social status. Personally, I find it sickening that people treat their environment like a...

Re: If Sensor Size Doesn't Matter, Why Buy a Bigger One?

I went to an exhibition of Olivia Parker on Fri. She specialises in still life. Her work is of the highest technical quality and it spans over five decades. She spent a time in the 80s using large...

Re: Hallo from Thailand

Hi Mike. I recognise your user id from the mu43 forum. Welcome to the UK E Group.

Regarding posting images, I personally find the gallery here way too basic. I normally upload images to Flickr...

Re: If Sensor Size Doesn't Matter, Why Buy a Bigger One?

Mostly marketing bull I reckon! Apart from size (and cost) I don't see why any of those points wouldn't apply to larger sensors.

Re: Where to host pictures etc

Try Fasthosts. Not free, but not too expensive either.

Re: Is there Multi-spot metering?

I've never seen multi-mode metering on any of the Oly m43 cameras I've had. Maybe the page you're looking at is an old 4/3 page (it's got the old Olympus logo and has an older web-style, so it's my...

Re: Is there Multi-spot metering?

BTW - to turn blinkies on, do this (for E-M1ii):

1. Cogs menu D1 (Disp)
2. Second menu choice (Info Settings)
3. LV-Info
4. Custom 1 (or 2, to taste)
5. Enable "Highlight & Shadow"

Then,...

Re: Is there Multi-spot metering?

IMHO, it's a bit pointless on a mirrorless camera with LiveView. If you turn on the over/under exposure indicators in the display ("blinkies") then you can easily see what parts of the image will be...

Re: F Stop.............!!

Yes, stacking is a great technique and better than stopping down for most things - but of course you need a relatively stable platform for it. I took this yesterday with the 8mm fisheye. Wide open...

Re: F Stop.............!!

Diffraction can be numerically estimated using the Rayleigh criterion for the size of the Airy disk. For closely-spaced objects this approximates to:

x = 2.44 L N

where:

x = size of Airy...

Re: Jessops deal: E-PL8 150 off and you can claim a free 45 f/1.8

You could probably sell the lenses for 250. Makes for a pretty cheap backup body or a street-shooting camera. But you have to get the white one. No 150 off on the black version :(

Re: If Sensor Size Doesn't Matter, Why Buy a Bigger One?

There are really only two differences in theoretical terms:

- Larger sensors give shallower DoF for a given field of view. A 50mm lens on FF gives a similar field of view to 25mm on m43. Point...

Re: Panasonic Lumix offers

I shot the 15 back-to-back with the 17/1.8 a while back. Pixel peeking reveals a very, very small advantage to the 15, but it's really very small (at least on the copies I had). Personally, I don't...

Re: New rumours!

Most patents from the photo gear manufacturers never make it into products. They just go into the patent library.
