Re: Yorkshire Flooding.

I'm not sure where you got your emission figures from. From what I can see transport is the single largest component of CO2 emissions at 27%.

Re: Rumors: Olympus to shut down camera division in less than 8 months

So it'll be very much like in the old film days. The camera companies seemed to survive those times ;)

Re: Yorkshire Flooding.

I think it varies. The developer of course want to build on the flood plain as it maximises their profits and that has happened in nearby towns (my town isn't on a flood plane). There's an awful lot...

Re: Yorkshire Flooding.

Planning is nothing to do with the courts. The developers can appeal to Secretary of State but that's it. It's a purely political matter. Councils are generally caught between a rock and a hard...

Re: Garden birds

I can add House Sparrow, Common Starling, Willow Warbler (once), Siskin and Moorhen (once). Are we allowed fly-overs because then I can add Canada Goose, Barn Swallow, House Martin and Black-headed...

Re: Yorkshire Flooding.

Clearing those smaller water courses only makes flooding worse. A natural stream will have many places where fallen logs will create mini-dams which will slow and hold back some of the water....

Re: Four Thirds Not Dead

That pair seriously need a lesson from Scott Bourne on depth of field.

Re: Rumors: Olympus to shut down camera division in less than 8 months

I'd say Nikon are the most vulnerable. Just about every other manufacturer has other, bigger, more profitable revenue streams. The rumour is, of course, a deliberate lie circulated by a number of...

Re: Rumors: Olympus to shut down camera division in less than 8 months

I don't believe that Olympus actually has a camera division. ISTR that cameras are part of their imaging division.

Re: Rumour 70-250 & Oly 100-400

i hope that if Oly bring out a 100-400(ish) they'll make it teleconverter compatible. It's nice to have the option even if you only occasionally have enough light.

Re: Boris Gate

Boris's lot? Do you mean the UK Government? Because both Tory and Labour governments have been selling arms to unsavoury regimes around the world for many decades. The rationale is usually "If they...

Re: Boris Gate

Sadly Dave died many, many years ago. I did get to vote for him once as he stood when we had a by-election here.

Re: E-M1 ii with 4/3rds lenses

The Mk II will potentially be better than the Mk I. Ultimately it depends on the speed of the lens's focus motor. The 50 f2 will be slow, slow, slow. That's the nature of the beast but focus speed...

Re: British Waterways

Not sad at all. Canal And Rivers Trust are doing a much better job. They actually want people to use the canals and tow-paths unlike the bone idle civil servants of BW who resented anything which...

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

It's a female Tufted Duck. The tuft on the female is much smaller than on the male and isn't always obvious.

Re: Problem with MC-20 2x Teleconverter

The firmware update for the 300/f4 was for the MC-20. I assume there'll be one for the 40-150 too. It's definitely something you need to check.

Re: What broadband speed do you need?

I "only" get about 6MB download speed and that's way more than I actually need for downloading or watching videos. Upload is speed is, of course, a lot less than that but I don't do a lot of...

Re: Birds In Flight Photography

BIF photography is about 80% technique. No whizz-bang toy can make up for that. I've taken BIF photos with my old E-510 and non-SWD 50-200. I've taken BIF photos with my EM1 Mk I. And, obviously,...

There used to be one around here (possibly a JCB escapee). Haven't seen it for years though.

I vaguely remember reading about the Air A01. 16MP is plenty to print up to A3 size.

Re: Climate Change

No it isn't. Arab crude is a very light oil suitable mostly for making petrol. OTOH North Sea oil has a very low petrol content. In practice refineries (in this country anyway) are geared to...

Re: Olympus developing a new 500mm lens?

Were I to do Africa (which I never will because I'm not rich), I'd go to Djuma in the Sabi Sands with the hope of seeing either Tingana, Thandi or Tlamba (they're all Leopards BTW). Then, yes, I'd...

Re: Olympus developing a new 500mm lens?

The only time I reach for a zoom over a prime to photograph mammals is if I'm going spend the day at a zoo. For wild mammals you very rarely have the problem of them being too close. I use the...
