Re: Mara River Crossings

We've never done a walking safari and as as we're both over 75 I think the time may have passed for that. Several camps do them. There are also a few driving trails only open to 4x4 which you have...

Re: Mara River Crossings

We'll be back to the Kruger again, probably for a fortnight which will give time to do the northern part where we haven't been for several years. For anyone thinking of going the SAN Parks website...

Re: Mara River Crossings

I really enjoyed the narrative and photos. It should inspire Phill D and others to take the plunge. There's nowhere quite like Africa for getting stunning wildlife photos. Our next trip is...

Re: HDEW..Ridiculous price.

I bought my 300/4 from HDEW. It developed a problem during the guarantee period and was quickly repaired. I'd happily use them again.

Re: Olympus E-1 plus 14-54, lenses and some accessories

When I joined the forum that was state of the art kit. It's sad to see it going for so little but I guess that's progress in the digital world.

Re: Third party battery failure for OM-D EM5 II

The EM1 eventually arrived at its destination on Friday, a full week after I posted it. Some of the delay was probably due to the batteries but the rest is unexplained.

Re: E-M10 shutter repair

I bought a Mk2 from a forum member earlier this year. It was sensibly priced because of a scratch on the LCD and I've been very pleased. All the photos in my Fishy Tale saga posted a couple of...

The latest update says it has now departed Lichfield to an international destination. The buyer lives in Lichfield!

Re: Third party battery failure for OM-D EM5 II

There obviously is a scanning system. I've just sold an EM1 on eBay and posted it on Friday, expecting it to be delivered on Saturday. It got stuck yesterday for a Dangerous Goods Review at Royal...

Re: Great Migration, Maasai Mara - introductory post

We did five safaris in Kenya between 1966 and 1991, covering Tsavo East and West, Mara, Amboseli and smaller parks like Nakuru, Naivasha, Hell's Gate and the various lakes, such as...

Re: More than one camera

When I'm doing 'serious' photography such as safaris or longer holidays I take 2xEM1 with appropriate lenses. However I still find space for the EM10 and 14-42EZ because it fills a different niche.

Re: More than one camera

The EM10 is worth considering as a backup. It lacks many of the features of the EM1ii but is much smaller, lighter and less expensive. It fits nicely in a cargo pocket with the 14-42EZ but will...

Re: Great Migration, Maasai Mara - introductory post

I too am looking forward to seeing more. The Wild Eye website quotes some eye watering prices. Our 11 days in the Kruger in February were under £2,500 all in for two people - less than a week for...

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

I went to Lackford Lakes again the other day. The duty kingfisher excelled itself with a fine display of perching, preening and diving. It didn't catch a fish and i concluded from its behaviour...

Re: Third party battery failure for OM-D EM5 II

The batteries I got for my EM1ii came in properly marked packages. The rules seem quite clear that if a battery is defective you cannot post it. No matter what it is, if something goes wrong it is...

Re: Third party batteries for the EM1ii (and EM1X)

Reliable testing of longevity is difficult as earlier posts have pointed out. The inference from the (identical) instructions for the Green Cell and the Patona Platinum batteries is that you need to...

Re: Third party batteries for the EM1ii (and EM1X)

I've now also got a Green Cell battery. This is rated at 1900mAh. It charges in the Olympus charger and gives the right reading in the camera but I have yet to find how long it lasts. ...

Re: Photography in Public Places

An indictable offence is one which can be tried in the Crown Court and is therefore more serious than one with which the magistrates can deal. The hurdle for a successful citizen's arrest is very...

Re: Kingfishers and lizards

Thank you all for the ID and comments.

I suspect I shall be taking the 300 to the Kruger! I've not bothered in the past as the 300+MC14 is hardly longer than the 100-400 and for many of the...

Re: Big news in the press re Safari amateur photographers

The cost will depend on what you do. South African citizens pay a conservation fee of £5.90 per head per day as day visitors to the Kruger. If you book in advance (advisable in peak periods) it...

Kingfishers and lizards

Encouraged by my visit to Lackford Lakes last week I went again on Monday. My attention was drawn to a group on the platform overlooking a reed bed. One of them had a 300/4 and EM1ii – the first...

Re: Big news in the press re Safari amateur photographers

It will take a long time to educate folk that watching wildlife rather than poaching it is the best way forward. The Chinese are now so well off that we’ll be seeing much more of them everywhere. ...
