Re: Something different

Apparently Otters don't accumulate body fat, which is why they have to eat so much especially in Scottish waters! An Otter I photographed this year in Wester Ross was showing it's ribs but I was...

Re: Coast

My big gripe with the Beeb is their practice of moving popular presenters around many programmes/series on subjects they have little technical knowledge of. I don't believe a good presenter on Blue...

Re: Oly 300 f4 spoiler?

From a wildlife photography point of view a zoom is much more useful than a prime as the size and distance of a subject cannot be predicted and is more often than not a very brief affair. In this...

Re: Kenko vs Fotga Extension tubes with the 75-300 Mk ll

I have Kenko and they are superbly built and totally reliable. E-M1 and 75-300mm are not budget items so need a quality set of tubes. Remember that "quality remains long after the price is forgotten"...

Magic! No. 2 for me with the distant yachts heeled over.

Re: Is C-AF actually improved with v3.0?

I was seriously disappointed when I first tried the EM5 with my 300mm f2.8 and 50-200 SWD, compared to my E5, so much so that I sold both lenses and purchased a Canon 7D and 400mm. The M5 still...

Re: Marsh Harriers with V3.0

Excellent shots and shows just what the 75-300 lens can do. For BIF I only use normal single point but magnified to x3 or x5 which gives me a much larger area to get on the bird and I have magnify...

HDR for moving birds

The HDR1 setting is one of my favourite functions on the E-M1 and I have used it on static perched birds before. I thought I'd have a go with slowly moving birds (swimming waterfowl) principally...

Re: E-M1 v.3 firmware - CAF improvements

It may not be photography in an artistic sense but I would say that most wildlife photography isn't either. It is photography in that it is using a digital (or film) medium to create an image for...

Re: E-M1 v.3 firmware - CAF improvements

I updated the firmware on my E-M1 last night and with bright blustery conditions this morning I thought it a good chance to test the capability on my usual BIF test subjects - Rooks and Wood Pigeons...

Re: Firmware update Version 3.0 - new info

For me, with birds, focus lock has always been spot on with S-AF so I don't see the need for MF.

Re: Photographing Kingfishers - Permit required?

This may help as well:

http://birdersagainst.org/photographing-schedule-1-birds/

The key words are: "intentionally disturb" - many nesting birds are disturbed accidentally which is unlikely to...

Re: Extension tubes or front of lens macro adaptor

I have used the Opteka in several sizes (they are inexpensive enough to have several) with excellent results although having such high magnification they are more suited to FLs between 25 and 60mm....

Re: Bucklebury Farm Park

A nice set of charachterful faces. I am not a portrait photographer so I've never seen the need to own lenses with wide maximum apertures. I agree that my 50mm f1.4 on my OM1 helped manual focusing...

Re: I'm returning to the fold

Welcome back Brian and I'm looking forward to some shots from the new gear. It is almost inevitable that a person with your exacting standards will need to vary your options to continue to get the...

Re: 40-150 f/2.8 Pro with C-AF

When I take BIFs I only use single point but with Magnify enabled at x5 which gives me a large rectangle to place over the bird. I have found this to be much more accurate than multiple points....

Re: Imagine: Olympus want you to design their next camera.

My feelings, an E6 DSLR with all the latest sensor technology plus the C-AF of my new other make. Mirrorless has it's place, as does my E-M1, but I so much miss my Olympus DSLRs.

Re: Where are you Chevvyf1?

I find this all rather strange! I do sometimes wonder about what may be behind some postings/comments on this forum, but in no way could I possibly be annoyed especially as I think that someone like...

Colin Prior

My hero in landscape photography is Colin Prior who was featured on tonight's Countryfile. Interestingly he uses a Leicaflex, I would never have imagined that.

Re: 300 hire?? EOS converter

Yes, I regularly use the EF 400mm L f5.6 and 1.4X TC with my E-M1 and provided the relevant focal length is manually set with IBIS then magnified MF produces excellent results. The TC reduces...

Re: A Very Close Water Rail

Lovely shots and in good light. Although skulking in the breeding season their numbers increase a lot during the winter from migration and in cold weather more are seen in the open. I remember on...
