That fits in with my understanding and post processing stacking can be quite painless. I use Zerene Stacker which I've always found very intuitive.

Just a thought - try setting your manual focus prior to the transit time at something else and then tape the focus ring? Thinking along the lines of setting a focus point looking a the Moon if it's...

A couple of things jump out straight away. S-AF and shutter speed.

Manual focus all the way for me on my shot. I got to my chosen location just over an hour before the transit was due...
