Re: External SSD drive

I am pleased to hear that yours is working well Keith.

There is a lot of talk about SSD's having a limited read/write life but I have had no problems. Some of mine have been in constant use for...

Re: External SSD drive

That's the one. Thank you Keith.

By the way, if you have two internal SSD's it is worth moving your PageFile.sys file to the second SSD. That significantly improves speed and also extends the life...

Re: External SSD drive

There is a free utility that you should download to keep the firmware up to date and perform regular maintenance. You can also choose to 'Over Provision' the drive so that a percentage is kept to one...

Re: External SSD drive

I thought it was a desktop?

If so, simply connect the new drive in place of the old one. It should boot from there, but you might need to go into the BIOS to make sure that the new drive is...

Re: Boris Gate

How did that happen? I thought John Bercow had ruled out another vote for now and that Boris was going to pause the Brexit Bill?

Oh I see; they have passed the first stage of the bill but want...

Re: Social Media killing our profession

I don't think social media has killed photography as a profession any more than mobile phone cameras have. If anything 'really good' photography is now more important than ever in this highly visual...

Re: External SSD drive

He bought it last year, refurbished from Apple. It is a nice enough machine if you forget the limitations but is clearly designed to be not upgradable.

The thing that really irritated me with his...

Re: External SSD drive

Short sighted my ar5e!

This is a deliberate policy by Apple to obsolete devices that are still perfectly functional. Likewise the lack of µSD card slots in iPhones and iPads.

My son...

Re: External SSD drive

You don't need any additional software. Simply create a 'disk image' in Windows saved onto an external drive, then restore that disk image to your new SSD. Simples.

The only restriction is that...

Re: External SSD drive

It does indeed date back to MS DOS. The boot drive for MS DOS was A:\. Once DOS was loaded you took the disk out and loaded programmes. Data was loaded and saved to B:\ drive

C:\ drive came into...

Re: External SSD drive

That would be a good plan, but if the machine doesn't have USB 3 sockets then you wouldn't gain anything in the way of speed.

Recent spinning hard drives are also quite quick for keeping data on....

Re: Copying DVD's to iMac

There are various apps available to 'mount' the contents of CD's and DVD's as logical drives on any internal hard drive. I think Handbrake is one of them. Once mounted the volume behaves just like a...

Re: Boris Gate

So will Boris get his way tomorrow? I suspect not.

Both sides are so deeply entrenched that they wouldn't accept a compromise even of it was god plated - not that we have much gold left.

I...

Re: Car modifications - is it or isn't it?

Re: Car modifications - is it or isn't it?
