Re: Third party batteries for the EM1ii (and EM1X)

I've now also got a Green Cell battery. This is rated at 1900mAh. It charges in the Olympus charger and gives the right reading in the camera but I have yet to find how long it lasts. ...

Re: Photography in Public Places

An indictable offence is one which can be tried in the Crown Court and is therefore more serious than one with which the magistrates can deal. The hurdle for a successful citizen's arrest is very...

Re: Kingfishers and lizards

Thank you all for the ID and comments.

I suspect I shall be taking the 300 to the Kruger! I've not bothered in the past as the 300+MC14 is hardly longer than the 100-400 and for many of the...

Re: Big news in the press re Safari amateur photographers

The cost will depend on what you do. South African citizens pay a conservation fee of 5.90 per head per day as day visitors to the Kruger. If you book in advance (advisable in peak periods) it...

Kingfishers and lizards

Encouraged by my visit to Lackford Lakes last week I went again on Monday. My attention was drawn to a group on the platform overlooking a reed bed. One of them had a 300/4 and EM1ii the first...

Re: Big news in the press re Safari amateur photographers

It will take a long time to educate folk that watching wildlife rather than poaching it is the best way forward. The Chinese are now so well off that well be seeing much more of them everywhere. ...

Re: EM5ii

Thank you, I believe he's going for a Panasonic.

I had a brief flash of a message from a forum member with insufficient posts to pm but don't know who it is.

Re: Kingfishers and insects

I was able to spend six hours there and, to be fair, the kingfishers didn't appear until about 1530 by which time I'd been in that hide for three quarters of an hour - patience rewarded.

Re: Big news in the press re Safari amateur photographers

If the hunting is done in an ethical and sustainable way I have no objection. Ethical can have many meanings but it should include bringing some tangible benefit to the local residents. If they...

Re: Kingfishers and insects

That's a shame as there were several on Thursday and at one point two were in sight. The best hides seem to be the double decker and the short stay hide next to it on the Kingfisher walk. That was...

Re: Big news in the press re Safari amateur photographers

In the Kruger, which I know reasonably well, there is a much greater density of animals and people in the south than in the north. Part of the problem of overcrowding is the safari operators who use...

Re: Venomous Snake Show (lots of photos).

That's the Aesculapian snake which is found in small numbers in the Chester area and part of London. It's common enough on the Continent but is not technically native to this country. It's not...

Re: Third party batteries for the EM1ii (and EM1X)

I'm envious of the game drives and look forward to seeing the photos! I always use a battery grip in those circumstances which virtually eliminates the risk of losing power at a key moment. Some...

Re: Venomous Snake Show (lots of photos).

Snakes are fascinating but I like to keep a respectful distance from the venomous ones, of which you seem to have plenty in Australia.

My young Labrador was bitten by an adder in late November...

Re: Third party batteries for the EM1ii (and EM1X)

I've used my two batteries once each which isn't enough to tell how long they last once they are 'run in'. My subjective impression is that they're not lasting as long at this stage as I would like.

Re: Kingfishers and insects

Thank you for those helpful comments.

The hides at Lackford Lakes are good. There is comfortable seating and a shelf on which to rest one's elbows. The forecast for Monday is good so I'll...

Re: 35-100 v 40-150 pro

There's a lot of overlap between the 40-150 and the 50-200, both excellent lenses. I replaced my 35-100/2 with the Panasonic 35-100/2.8. You lose a stop but it's much smaller and lighter. Even...

Re: Kingfishers and insects

Thank you. All the shots were taken with the 300+MC20. My reason for stopping down was to improve the DOF. It wasn't too much of a problem at the distances involved in the bird photos but would...

I bought the 300/4 from HDEW several years ago but have hardly used it since acquiring the 100-400. However, inspired by the postings from Tordan and others, Ive splashed out and bought an EM1ii...

Re: EM5ii

Thank you. Unfortunately as a new member I have to wait 60 days and make 25 posts before I can access the wanted section. I guess that's one way of stopping spam but it seems laborious.
