Re: Panorama Trials and Tribulations (warning very wide images)

I do a lot of panoramas and have done for many years (1981 with an OM-1!).
I have a set of tick-offs.
I usually use a tripod and get it set up as level as possible.
Try not to use wide angle focal...

Re: The Bothy

Hi
I recognise that howf in Glen Clunie south of Braemar.
A nice but cold day.
I would have reduced the foreground as its not that interesting.
The sky is better and more of it with the bothy...

Re: I'll be the Judge

You will only please the winner(s).
So, have confidence in yourself.
Walk through all the entries reasonably fast.
The good ones will standout which should be about 5% of the total.
Then go over...

Re: Scotland. Advice please.

Lots of offers from Englishmen.
Midgies.
Skin so soft works for me. Any decent grocers in the Highlands will have a fantastic display of things which work for people but it does tend to be...

Re: St Mungo's and the Necropolis, Glasgow

Very nice, B & W suits the Necropolis. I like no. 3 the best.
I spent 2 days doing a job here. Where the great and rich of Glasgow are buried. Lots of super interesting corners.
The religious ones...

Re: Ben Mor Coigach

Hi John
I like the light but I'm not sure about the fence. I always feel you have to 'get over' such things.
The hill to the left would be Stac Pollaidh if it is Ben Mor Coigach but I think what...

Re: Walk Among Wildflowers

No, its not ice its a bog on the side of a hill. The vegetation is very good at water retention and that's not an ailment. The usual phrase is 'a wee burn' until its been raining for 3 days when it...

Re: Bicycle Crash

As someone who cycled for 25 years the first thought is 'Is the bike alright?'
The bike does look alright and she doesn't look to badly injured which suggests a sudden and unsustainable movement to...

Re: Tomnaverie Stone Circle

A nice day well captured, fine sky. A quiet monument.
I was recently working here as about 100m away on the southwest side of the hill is an old ROC observation post, which as it is within the...

Re: Up Helly Aa 2015 images are up

Great. Cracking set as normal. I think the camera was feeling the strain as the pictures get grainier as the night goes on. Many thanks.

Re: Diffraction??

Hi Iain
I agree with Kami. The little circles suggest muck somewhere on the optics.
I'd clean filters, front element of lens and rear element. All with a liquid cleaner as well as cloth.

Re: Low angle at Ennerdale

I agree with Stephen. Try a +1 grad filter in raw from the bottom up to the water horizon. The shutter speed I'd like to have seen freeze or mist the waves more. Anyway its Fotofair, I like the idea...

Re: The Kelpies

Like No 1. Cracking skies in all of them. They suit B&W. neatly exposed without burning out.
I do get a bit annoyed about the march of the pylons every time I pass them on the motorway. They will be...

Re: Common cranes

Very jealous. I would love to see them in the wild. They have started breeding again in Scotland 2 years ago. The first time in about 200 years.

Nos 1, 3 and 6 for me.

Re: Cummingston Sunset

Looking good. Nice set. The weather has been grand this week. If I could make a suggestion. Get a lot closer to those pebbles and have a bottle of water to soak them.

Re: Gordon Buchanan on Winterwatch

I stayed in Balneasie in late October 1976. My club, the Ochils MC, were doing a Tilt- Lairig walk. We left the cars just behind Blair Castle and walked in on a starlit, frosty night. Fabulous...

Re: Rock Formation

Oh, B****r you've been practising.:D
A really nice set. I think No. 2 shades it but I like the lead in in No.1.
No.4 needs the boat on the horizon cloned out.
I like the surfer, lovely movement...

Re: Do you want to improve your photos.

Yes, but would it be on 4/3s or M4/3s, wide angle or telephoto, wide open or stopped right down, raw or jpeg, not to mention what dramatic effect? And would the result be put up in Fotofair or...

Re: Scottish Vote on Independence ?

I haven't made my mind up yet but at least now, with the white paper, there is a skeleton on which to place flesh of whatever colour.
The SNP have had independence as their No. 1 in their manifesto...
