Re: Rollright Stones

Nice shot - like the treatment.

Isn't it the Rollrights that it's said to be impossible to count?

Re: Repair Saga: Month two

I would go for a personally addressed letter to MD Olympus Europe with "Personal and Confidential" on the envelope. That should at least get to the CEO's office if not his/her desk. I tried that with...

Re: WTB: Olympus OM20 + 50mm

You need to watch the OM20 and test thoroughly before purchase or get a sale-or-return undertaking - if my memory is correct they had a tendency to shutter problems. I'm sure if anyone on this forum...

Re: Olympus development

I agree completely about the long end: they need something with more reach to make the most of the advantages of 4/3rds. I'm surprised they haven't cooked something up with Sigma.

However, I...

Re: depth of field again

Yes - if it could be done.

Considerably more use than "art filters" :D (ducks and runs in anticipation of bricks being thrown...)

Re: Does glass quality/size matter?

Yes - I've used a flash meter with my own cheap and cheerful studio lights and found that the meter reading is a starting point rather than giving "perfect" exposure (whatever that is). Using legacy...

Re: Does glass quality/size matter?

Some of us went on a tutored studio session a while back and found that our results from a given aperture/shutter setting were significantly different to the guy leading the session, who was shooting...

Re: Recharging my battery

I seem to remember that Li-ion batteries are better recharged before being fully discharged.

They don't suffer from the memory effect that NiCad or NiMh do.

However, storing them fully charged...

Re: Olympus announces new digital workflow software

Wonder if it'll (finally) allow firmware updates to the E1 alongside the current E***s so I can get rid of the original Olympus Viewer software from my PC (not that any new E1 updates are likely, I...

Re: Anti Virus Software

I had this problem too about 18 months ago. When I eventually got it to update the PC ran slower than a paralysed sloth. Chucked it and got Avast instead. Seems to work fine for me. Why pay if you...

Re: Filter for 12 -60

They did at one time. I have some 49mm Olympus UV filters from 35mm days. It amazes me Oly don't still sell them. The fanboys would instantly conclude they enabled better colour rendering or somesuch...

Re: OM-fit Clubman 28-135 Help please.

Dave is bang on. Clubman were never a topline brand.

I would go for the cheapest adaptor on fleabay (about a tenner) and just have some fun with it. Some people have got acceptable results with...

Re: Fish Eye lens image samples

I've always liked the fish eye effect, and had a Jessops screw in adaptor that produced some interesting results on 35mm. It had to be used with the lens at f16 or thereabouts to give good results. I...

Re: Mag adverts

This topic seems to come around quite regularly. Perhaps because all journalists are tarred with the red-top tabloid brush, hardly anyone believes their assertions of independence or open-mindedness....

Lovely portrait John.

If my local camera clubs arranged models like this, I'd join up!

Re: Focus Screens

I had a Katz Eye on my E500, which I installed myself without problems. I didn't get a replacement when I upgraded to the E510 as losing the red LEDs was an issue Katz highlighted in their publicity....

Re: ND Filters

Cokin (and I think possibly Kood) NDs can return a noticeable magenta colour cast in some circumstances. Personally, I've only seen it on the E1, but it has been widely reported... It's obviously...

Re: Lunch with Olympus' manager of SLR product planning

So, HD video to go with the pointless "Art Filters" and scene modes - Great!

It would be nice if Olympus actually listened to their end users (vide the poll on this forum not so long ago) and...

Re: Which software?

The big benefits of Lightroom are in organising your images and in batch processing (should you need to). As Stephen says, most images can be tweaked as much as one needs in LR without opening PS....
