Re: In praise of Tarkovsky

Re-awakening this old thread, as there was a superb The Film Programme recently on Radio 4 about a writer's (Moira Buffini) relationship with Stalker over the years, presaging Chernobyl, amongst...

Re: Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8

I recently got the 12-100mm f4 after using the 12-35mm and 35-100mm f2.8 pair for years. I haven't used the latter much recently, but will probably hang onto them for when I need wider apertures, and...

Re: Computer advise.

I wouldn't bother upgrading anything a few years old. There are a lot of nasty exploits around now that need regular driver updates to be safe. Beyond a few years, the manufactures no longer bother,...

Re: E-M1X Terrific Red Kite Images

Interesting. I find it's hard to get close to them when they are on the ground, they are fairly wary. But on a gentle slope, they cruise buy soaring the ridge lift, and get quite close as it's their...

Re: E-M1X Terrific Red Kite Images

It would be interesting to know more about what territory red kites prefer. My family live in Milford on Sea, and I'm surprised not to see more red kites in the New Forest when I visit. There must be...

Re: E-M1X Terrific Red Kite Images

Thanks, proper job! Very nicely processed too. I live near the Chilterns where they were re-introduced from Wales and are now thriving and spreading fast. They can soar on nothing, which is a joy to...

Re: "Trigger finger" and photography

A lot of problems like this can be due to a small knot of muscle in spasm, which tenses up the whole muscle, and thereby causing joint pain etc. The pain felt is often referred some distance away....

Re: P30 Pro - Unbelievable Quality!

My P30 arrived yesterday (non Pro), and looks very promising, but not had a chance to play with the cameras yet. Being short-sighted, I look at my phone fairly close with glasses off. Both phones are...

Re: P30 Pro - Unbelievable Quality!

This is presumably in aperture mode, which is a software simulation of DOF. The main camera is f1.8, and the B+W f1.6 max. Fun to play though.

Re: Lower EVF mag. much better for eye-glass wearers.

It's down to the optical design of the EVF. It's not so much the magnification as the eye relief as it's known. Some EVFs have the focal point further out from the EVF lens. I've not had any problem...

Re: My new Oly 12-100mm vs 12-40mm RAW sharpness

I presume you mean dual IS. I've never used the 35-100 IS on my E-M1.1, the IBIS giving good results, and it's one or the other on Oly. I think you need the Mk II 35-100 to get dual IS on a Pana...

Re: Lightroom use on two pcs, anyone do it?

LR Classic isn't really designed for use on multiple PCs. I recently got a nice W10 Dell laptop which runs it well for when I'm away. Unless you keep everything on an external drive and swap over...

Re: My new Oly 12-100mm vs 12-40mm RAW sharpness

I got the 12-100 from Wex at TPS, having had the Pana 12-35 and 35-100 f2.8 pair since soon after they came out, long before Oly had the 12-40 and 40-150. They have been my main lenses alongside the...

Re: Anyone got Olympus Studio for Mac OS?

I presume when you say command mode, you mean control mode? Otherwise try that. It might be easier on a PC if anyone will let you try.

Re: Anyone got Olympus Studio for Mac OS?

Looking at the Japan page, all cameras except the E-1 have Digital Camera Updater as download options. That suggests you might have to use either:
OLYMPUS Master 2.x (OLYMPUS Studio 2)
or
OLYMPUS...

Re: Anyone got Olympus Studio for Mac OS?

Digital Camera Updater software has been the way to do it for some time on Windows and Mac. https://www.olympus.co.uk/site/en/c/cameras_support/downloads/firmware_update_instructions/index.html

Re: FastStone Image Viewer finally supports monitor profiles

Good idea Andy, though not sure how it would work, as FastStone is more like Windows Explorer when it comes to file management, being manual and clear-cut. It does what you ask it to do....

FastStone Image Viewer finally supports monitor profiles

Whoo hooo, lucky version 7 *chr I've been waiting for years for FastStone, my favourite Windows image browser to support monitor profiles, so full colour management. It's had partial colour...

Re: E-M1 Firmware update

I don't remember that either Steve. Just done the second one, and that's the same. It didn't actually lose the AF lens data luckily, it just needed turning on again in the menu :) The menu settings...

Re: Panasonic 100-400 Photo Show saga. Buyers warning.

Very sorry to hear this Phill. Hard to understand how the mount could be made wrong with all the fine tolerances inside the lens. At least the swarf was probably not from the critical butting...

Re: E-M1 Firmware update

I had to update my new 12-100 firmware, so decided to do one of my E-M1s (from 4.3). Wiped the lot including copyright and file prefix. Took an hour to delve into the menus and copy settings from my...

Re: The Photography Show - PODCAST!

I succumbed Paul, though Wex were out of stock. Coming tomorrow, and I didn't have to lug it around :) Bit cheeky of Wex, they stuck the price on the web up to 1199 very recently while Oly have it...

Re: Photography Show 2019 - Can we manage to meet up this year

Great to catch up for the podcast and on the stand, and nice to chat to Mark again. 12-100 ordered from Wex, arriving tomorrow. They'd run out of show stock!

Re: The Photography Show - PODCAST!

Curses Ian, with the 12-100 at 899 it's going to be hard to refrain! Nearly down to the HDEW price of 825.
