Re: Image size for large screen viewing

The typical widescreen HDTV these days, as Graham pointed out, is 1920 x 1080. Your image will be scaled and stretched to match this size. The scaling will be okay but the stretching will distort the...

Re: Image size for large screen viewing

If you resize an image to anything other than the ratio of the TV @ 1920 wide by 1080 high (16:9 ratio) then the TV will either automatically scale the image to fit, with black lines either side or...

Re: Image size for large screen viewing

Most HDTV is 1080 lines and 1920 wide.

So any 4/3 rds. format images will produce black bands down each side or be stretched if the TV is set to do this.

You may want to crop your images to the...

Re: RAW files from EM1 in Aperture

Do not jump ship until you have reviewed the replacement product due out in 2015.

YOu will not be able to do a transfer of your existing images to in Aperture to Lightroom without having to do a...

Re: RAW files from EM1 in Aperture

Apple for some odd reason have decided that raw file processing should be done in the OS. So, new cameras=new OS version. Given that Apple are discontinuing Aperture, it might make sense to...

Re: EM1 with 35-100 f2 lens plus 1.4 converter issue

I have yet to use the T/C with the 35-100 & e-m1 but will endeavour to try the combo some time this coming week and let you know how 'I' get on.

I have had good results with both the EC14 & EC20...

Re: Portraits and focus on the EM1

There's a well-known issue with the rear wheel (at least) which develops a tendancy to miss clicks. You need to send it off to Oly for a warranty repair.

OTOH - if it only happens in M mode, then...

Re: Portraits and focus on the EM1

Hi Sisi, it's easy - you need to set the "Live view boost" option. It's under Menu - Cogs D, Disp/sound symbol/PC, page 92 in the manual. What you are seeing without it is how it would look if you...

Re: custom white balance on the EM1

or just include a neutral gray card at the edge of the image frame - cheaper than a Colorchecker Passport.

Re: custom white balance on the EM1

TBH I find it a lot easier to just use my Colorchecker Passport & then set the wb in LR to that. I didn't know that LR couldn't use the custom WB as it has worked OK for me I thought.

Select the one-touch white balance settings (there are two available, icon looks like a two triangles touching in the middle with a circle sat on top with number 1 or 2 to...

Re: Professional shooting with E-M5?

No - would be fine - would think fine at 30"x20" but would want to go a lot bigger want to print up to 60" and crop off the edges e.g around background.

It may be fine for studio work and...

Re: Save the date - 12th September

Those LED spots are horrible. Lots of small music venues use them now because they are powerful and relatively cheap, but the light quality is awful. Sometimes when I shoot gigs I just can't get a...

Re: Save the date - 12th September

From a colour balance point of view that has got to be quite possibly the worst light in which I've ever taken a photograph. Even my normally very reliable E-m5 failed to cope and it was compounded...

Re: Save the date - 12th September

Er, oh dear, probably the custom blue jeans one - as that was what I wanted to test, When underwater you want to restore the reds as the water absorbs the longer wavelengths of light at a faster rate...

Re: Shooting RAW on OMD

Sounds like the digital teleconverter is on. Don't know if you get white lines with RAW and using a different aspect ratio, but they are there with the D.T.C.

Re: OMD EM5 with 90-250 versus Olympus E5

I can see why the E-5 struggles in IQ against the E-M5 in the one of the conductor in profile (that was taken with the E5 and 90-250) & why it would be nice to have the latest body that would work...

I understand where you're coming from having been a violinist & violist in orchestras & then later trying to photograph them (my children), but I also love the #4 shot. A beautiful moment!

Re: OMD EM5 with 90-250 versus Olympus E5

You may wish to wait for the new OMD that is supposed to be fully compatible with FT lenses.

Best guess is that it will have PDFA on the sensor and come with a MFT to FT adaptor.

Off course if...

Re: OMD EM5 with 90-250 versus Olympus E5

The file attachment option on the forum is not really suitable for evaluating photos - best to use the gallery or insert photo from external web space.

Re: New Top Specification OMD coming?

Since the E-M5 is actually quite small but larger with the grip, if it is to be able to take the larger 4/3's lenses & be a 'Professional' model, then it needs to be bigger to accomodate the...
