The Art of Seeing

I recently came across a photographer whose work and life are truly remarkable and inspirational - Ken Keen FRPS.

First of all I thoroughly recommend watching this video about Ken - it's 20...

Re: Couple of shots on Velvia 50

Thanks Nigel. You can get a waist level finder for the H1 as well. :)

I use an Epson 4990 that I bought for 50 and use the bog standard Epson Scan software. The 4990 was the predecessor of the...

Hasselblad H1

Blimey, my third post in a week. What's got into me...? :)

Anyway, if anyone is curious about the Hasselblad H1 that I mentioned in my last post about shooting on Velvia...

Re: Anyone using a Holga?

Thanks, and yes, absolutely on the imperfection!

The first one was Fuji Pro 400H - no filter, that's just the way it came out shooting into the sun.

The second was Lomography Color Negative...

Re: Anyone using a Holga?

Love my Holga 120N. Don't use it as much as I should.

Re: Pinhole digital photography

Digital pinhole always seems a bit pointless to me. And even more so fake pinhole effects. You can't beat a 'proper' pinhole photo. :)

Re: Art, or do you have you a diferent opinion?

I backed the original kickstarter and have no regrets doing so. I didn't buy any more packs after I received the first one though for two reasons:
1) It was prohibitively expensive.
2) There were...

Re: The lure of the uncomplicated camera

Although flatbeds are never going to match dedicated film scanners for quality, the Epson Perfection series, 4990, V500, V700, V800 etc, probably come pretty close. I'm happy with my 4990 and it will...

Re: The lure of the uncomplicated camera

Ah, that's interesting, I haven't actually used Velvia in 35mm. I always use Agfa CT Precisa (which is Provia under a different name) because it's cheaper.

They do indeed - in fact Fuji don't...

Re: The lure of the uncomplicated camera

Kind of wish I'd bought an M6 when I first started looking a couple of years ago before the recent price hikes - have to keep telling myself I don't need a Leica!

For medium format the Hasselblad...

Re: Sunny 16

No I don't use the indents on the lens. If you're starting of with sunny 16 doing it on the lens can make it easier but after a while you don't have to think about it too much. And when you get used...

Re: Sunny 16

I have several film cameras that don't have built-in light meters and I use the sunny 16 rule quite a bit. You soon get used to working out the appropriate shutter speed/aperture combination.

For...

Re: Castell Coch with OM-4ti

I use an Epson Perfection flatbed, the Epson 4990. It's an earlier model (but possibly just as good) as the V700. I bought it for 50.

By the way, the film, Agfa CT Precisa is re-badged Fuji...

Re: B&W films for street photography - my daughter's latest A level project

Thanks Phil, John and Nigel. The way blacks are rendered with XP2, and the almost complete lack of grain up to 400 ISO, make it one of my favourite B&W films, along with the fact that it's so easy to...

Re: Boots the Chemist to stock Roll Film !

Velvia isn't that expensive in 120, although Fuji are hiking the prices in October. I pay 25 for 5 rolls with free postage, that's no more than any other colour film, or B&W for that matter....

Re: Boots the Chemist to stock Roll Film !

Certainly easier to use in the field than a monorail.
This looks promising too - and possibly less than £130 for the basic camera when it becomes available:

Re: What is photograph?

That's a very good question, Amanda. The lines between photography and digital art can become quite blurred sometimes. That was one of the things that drew me back to film. I don't have a clue about...

Congratulations to you as well Huw and Stephen - not together though obviously.:)

And *blush* many thanks Simon and, yes, I was particularly pleased to get that shot on film.

Sorry to be late...
