MC 20 question...

So to try and understand the differences in the focal lengths of the lenses I have, I took these...

As I don't have an MC20 yet, that give 600mm and about the label of the bottle?

This looks like a great thread.

I'll go and buy some beer after my MC-20 arrives this afternoon.

I can’t wait to do the same with a 150-400 at 1000mm

That looks like fun. Will it work with Ghost Ship? Broadside is a bit much for me these days.

I’d have thought it would work with Ghost Ship too, if you’re one of the fast buyers of the MC20 and have a 40-150 and a 300 why not try?

Re: MC 20 question...

Back in the days of film I took a similar series of shots, ranging IIRC from 21mm to 300mm, in preparation for a talk I gave at the local camera club. I also took a second series with the same lenses where I kept the main subject, e.g. your bottle of beer, the same size in the image by moving further away as focal length increased. It illustrated the way perspective changes and how distant objects get compressed together as focal length increases.

The club was very small, probably less than ten of us, so "a talk I gave" was not nearly as grand as it might sound :o

Cheers,

Ah, my favourite ale...

Can’t be beaten, tapped from the cask behind the bar at the Queen’s Head in Newton.

The none alcoholic Ghost Ship (actually 0.5%) is surprisingly palatable tasting nearly the same, plus it seems easier to get sharp results with hand held shots....*chr

Just received mine from the Oly shop. Just updating my firmware now so I can give it a try. One comment, the offer code worked nicely Paul thanks for sharing it, however, I've just noticed Oly have charged me twice!!! hopefully it's an error and they will refund the excess. Fingers crossed.

Re: MC 20 question... Mark 2!

So the same basic premise as before... but with a bit more information, all at approximately 6m (5.95-6.05):

7,5mm to 600mm = 80x optical zoom (with bit of intervention)
EDIT: I forgot to put shutter speed and ISO against each one... All taken with the camera on Aperture Priority, Auto ISO, clouds were scudding across the sky quite quickly so exposure has wobbled about a little.

Re: MC 20 question...

To my eyes the 300mm + MC-20 shot appears sharper (zigzag stitching to eye and beak) than that taken with 300mm + MC-14 and the 300mm without any extender.

Where was the focus point located?

Walti 8th July 2019 01:14 PM

Re: MC 20 question...

All taken with the single focus point set to the centre of the photo, so a slight move along the beak between both photos.

Re: MC 20 question...

The interesting comparison for me was the 40-150 plus MC20 at 300mm vs the 300mm lens alone. I'd say the 300mm was definitely a bit better but not by much. Nice to know. Now if you could do a comparison at 300mm with both of them and a Panny 100-400 and a 75-300 at 300mm that would be really great.
