Derelict boat

This is a shot from a while ago at a boat yard on Derwent Water. Its a derelict boat that has been shot many times so what do you think let me know good bad or indifferent.

I like the powerful, diagonal composition, the soft light, the contrast and range of tones, the white vignette and the way it is blended, almost scratched, into the image, all beautifully set off by the strong, black frame. Add to this that it's the type of subject which really grabs me and you can see why I like it a lot. It also demonstrates to me that I need to get more creative with my own processing and presentation. :)

That looks wonderful Alf.
I love the strong black and white contrast and almost "gritty " feel to the shot, it really suits the subject well.

Alf, I LURVE the image except for the thick black border :(

Personally, I would put the image on a bigger white background so the image is 1/3rd of the whole :) then I would do a 2 or 3 cm black/grey line then 9 or 13 white and then another 2 or 3 black/grey. :) Because its a delicate boat, and needs to be in pride of place :)

It is a most AWESOME image (shot and processed) Thanks for sharing :) greatly enjoyed this one :)

Yes. I like it.

It's striking and unusual, and the presentation adds to the drama.

A very effective image of an evocative subject. I like the 'vintage' feel of the processing. I have to agree with Chevvy about the black frame, though. Very nice Alf.

Thanks for the comments guys.
I was expecting more negatives than just the border which I have to say I am not really a fan of borders myself.

A striking image and very well processed. Interesting comments regarding borders which proves they are trickier than you think given it seems such a simple notion.

Got to agree with Chevvy, lose the border.
Otherwise good, strong composition, well seen and very well executed.
If your ever short of a derelict boat or two come to Skye we've almost cornered the world market in derelict boats.

Re: Derelict boat

I think its a winner.
The border looks fine to me....and sets it off when viewing in electronic format....if we were all meeting up and displaying our printed work to each other then I don't think we would comment on the frame and mount because its interchangeable; but having bothered to display it in a frame and mount improves the presentation....I think thats just the same when viewing electronically......sorry if I'm starting to ramble.

Re: Derelict boat

love it apart from the border, try it with just one or two pixels to frame it.

edit, when viewed on black on your flikr it is much more powerful, I think supporting the argument that the border is too intrusive.

I like this very much and think I prefer it without the heavy border.
