New Camera(for me)

Just got myself a decent deal on an E-30 with a 12-60mm and 70-300mm lens. I'm not really sure if I'm holding onto the lens or if I'll sell them on but I've heard good things about the 12-60mm.

Any advice on stepping up from the 510 to the e-30?

Thanks
George

12 verses 10 Megapixels gives a slight increase in resolution although I remember my E-510 was excellent at extracting every last drop of detail from the sensor.
As memory serves apart from the swivel screen, larger VF, handling the main bonus will be wider dynamic range with a more gradual roll off into highlight clipping.
The Oly 12-60 is a peach of a lens (I've had two in past) :)

Thanks Huw. The swivel screen should be handy as I like getting some low shots when taking waterfalls etc...

I'm looking forward to using the 12-60mm but did promise my other half that I'd sell it on as don't really have the cash for it. If I love it though I can see me selling a body part instead....

Definitely hang onto the 12-60 if you can.

Re: New Camera(for me)

I stepped up from my E-510 to an E-30 and continued to use the E-30 for many happy years

I agree that the 12-60 is definitely a keeper I had the similar 14-54 on my camera most of the time and the extra that your lens gives is well worth having

I would pass on the 70-300 to keep your other half happy but keep the above

In terms of overall comparison I found the E-30 a good step up from the 510 and was certainly happy to use it up to about 1600 ISO if I was then going to use DXO prime noise reduction on the resulting files. for general use I had the camera set to a maximum of 1000 which is still above the 4-800 I considered as maximum on my E-510 - it is certainly worth doing some direct comparison shots between the 2 cameras to realign yourself on what are your personal limits.

I still have mine and intend keeping it as a backup for now

Regards
Andy

Thanks Andy. Good to hear from someone who did the same step up. I only started using dxo and it works wonders on noise.

I'll have a play and do some comparisons when it arrives them decide which lens to hold onto. The 300mm might come in useful when I'm out looking for hares. Ha ha I'm trying to justify keeping it all.

Will post some images from it soon.

You heard right about the 12-60mm. When dpreview reviewed it they stated that it was a superb lens:
