Great examples Brian no evidence of poor light from the pictures. Who would have thought you could this quality at ISO1600 a few years ago. Thanks for sharing*chr

Were any of the BIF taken using C-AF and how did you get on with tracking the birds in the EVF?

A great set, but my favourite is actually the Heron!

Re: A Few Shots from the HCT today

Thanks all, "birdboy" the shots of Charlie Brown were done using CAF at 6fps, and it was the usual story, if the first frame was in focus the rest were, a couple of sequences I got were all equally out of focus (so at least it was consistent ;) ) Under these conditions I reckon I was only getting 30% - 40% in focus (but with the EM-5 it would have been zero using CAF in this light!)

I find no problem tracking the birds using the EVF, neither with the EM-1 nor with the EM-5 (for me, with high frame refresh set it is just as suable as it was with my OVF on the canon bodies)

couldn't sleep so worked on a few more shots. Checking the stats I see that I got around 1045 images from a single charge (that's RAW + LSF jpg)

A couple more of Charlie Brown, showing how well the composite focus system in CAF helps when shooting small birds at distance

The first is the full frame, resized for the web, the second is a 100% crop from the full frame (ISO 1600, CAF with 6fps - small single point central focus box))

http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3754/1...39cd572d_o.jpg

As a check to make sure that the above wasn't the result of focusing on the trees + DOF making Charlie look in focus, here is the third shot in the sequence, where he is well clear of the trees, manually tracking in the EVF with CAF maintaining focus

http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3777/1...e37cc900_o.jpg

one more (it amazed me anyway :) ) this is a 100% crop, un-resized of the 8th of a sequence of 10 extreme distance shots of Charlie climbing through the sky and turning over into a stoop on the lure. At this point he is doing around 80-100mph and the single point CAF has kept him in focus throughout the sequence (it is obviously lacking in detail, but the fact that its a very small section of an ISO1600 image my have something to do with that :D). I'm sure that although I may have managed one lucky frame, the EM-5 couldn't have done this

Brian, those are a brilliant set of images and the EM1 has certainly delivered the goods with great IQ.

No evidence of 1600 and would not have guessed if you had not said.

Thanks for sharing

Re: A Few Shots from the HCT today

Lenses:

The Bald Eagle and Heron = 75-300

Fish Eagle = Oly 40-150

the rest = Panasonic 35-100 f2.8 (but oh how I want the 40-150 f2.8 :) )

Not sure if I'm free Thursday Chevvy but plan a quick trip up this afternoon as Pam is on Hayloft Gallery duty then and it looks like a lovely sunny day (as they promised yesterday but didn't deliver! :D)
