eBay here I come...

And the (potential) joy of broken lenses!

[Actually, as I have an old-timer lens with fungus, I'm more or less knitted already!]

Hmmm. 'Using a Flawed Camera Lens for Creative Photos.'

I suppose using a Canon lens has to be a good start. :D

Noo; I don't know where you got that idea from.

In that case, I'll put you down as 'true believer'.
I'll light a candle too!

Oh yes, lots of candles, and some smoke and bells too please. :D

I think it would help break the effect of digital being too clean, almost clinical in appearance. Of course if your purpose is for recording absolute likeness, a sort of perfect reality (as far as the 2D representation of a photograph can do this), shoot digital with good optics. Perfect for medical imaging, or for use by building surveyors to include in their survey reports.

Aren't you worried about the fungus 'moving into' your camera?

Perhaps it's me being neurotic as I come from a microbio background & worked extensively with bugs, inc. fungi - just love 'em :D

That would worry me too.

I have a number of Olympus prime lenses that were always prone to fungi so I would be concerned that keeping a badly fungused lens in close proximity is just asking for trouble. Fungi don't seem to respect anything including quality optics!

Sorry, but never mind the fungus I would not have kept any of those pictures
We all have our own preferences, but those did nothing for me at all

I have thought a little about my comment since this morning, and whilst I still don't get the appeal of using fungusy lenses to create substandard images, let alone Canon lenses, I can see some artistic merit.

I follow a lady on Facebook who consistently posts stunning images from around the country. Most of the time I really enjoy her photographs and find them quite inspirational; but they always seem to paint such a rosy Kodachrome type image of life that I sometimes find them just a little bit sweet and sticky and crave for some gritty B&W images of the grottier places just around the corner from her picture postcard locations.

You're very welcome to come and take B&W images of the inside of my shed and back garden with your Mamiya. If that doesn't satisfy your cravings, nothing will :D

PS. Dont forget to borrow a blob of axle grease from Andy's Land Rover to smear on the lens *chr

Oh dear, sorry, I seem to have started something here
Mine was more of a tech than aesthetics question, but it’s interesting to hear what folk think about the fuzzy images... I don’t have sufficient artistic bent to comment on my this aspect

I think we will have to agree that this is 'modern art' Sue.

And I don't get it either. *yes
