please back up your favourite phots

Today we took the much loved family pooch on a one way trip to the vet.

I have just spent an hour trawling my computer for my fave photo of him.

Can't find it so it looks like it didn't survive my recent hard drive crash.

Luckily I have printed it so can scan it back in I think.

Please please please make sure the photographs you are emotionally attached to are backed up, its a ****ing disaster when you have cause to look for them and cannot find them.

Sorry to hear about your traumatic day Sponner. Hopefully, the elusive photo will turn up somewhere. If not you will still have those precious memories inside your head.

Good advice. It's too long since I backed up everything. A good job for the weekend.

Sorry for your loss, it is always a sad time when you lose a loved pet.

I hope you find the pics.

I use software that automatically backs up any new or changed files at the same time every day to a external HD.

Sorry to hear about your pooch.

My backup regime is:

1. Upload everything to a hosting site.
2. Backup to an external HDD.
3. Make a DVD master disc.
4. Make a DVD disc to use for editing etc etc.

I taught my daughter all of this, and still she lost the first two years worth of her university degree photography work when her HDD crashed. Hence her 2 2!!!

Nigel :( very sorry to hear your dear friend has passed on but what a fab life he must have had :) I do so hope you find that photo, or that the scan creates a great image for you - maybe you would share it here ?

x hugs

I've had my fair share of disk crashes in the past. Now everything is on a RAID 1 server to provide at least a modicum of safety. However shooting 16GB in a weekend is puuting a strain on data management. Hope your scans are okay.

Can anyone recommend a good free automatic backup software?
