Olympus OM-D E-M10 hands-on preview and image samples

Four Thirds User (Fourthirds-user.com) is a sibling site to the e-group.

http://fourthirds-user.com/images/em-10c.jpg

We look at the new and even smaller but, crucially, more affordable, OM-D E-M10, along with the new power zoom 14-42mm m.Zuiko Digital pancake and the m.Zuiko 25mm f/1.8 prime lenses. We also have a gallery of unique product shots and almost 50 full resolution sample images, including RAW files for you to download.

Looks interesting. Not sure about it being even smaller than the E-M5. The new lenses are good.

You have to wonder at how the product line up will work going forward, will there be a PL series in the future? The OM-D E-M10 seems to offer a better specification for not much more money, the EP5 has a better specification, but is much more expensive and for those who must have EVF, the M10 is a cheaper way to go if you can live with the 3axis IS, and why not?

I have managed to hang on to my preview samples of the new E-M10 and the 14-42mm pancake power zoom and the 25mm f/1.8 prime - at least for now. If you have any questions about the kit, let me know :)

I would be interested in your impressions of he 25mm 1.8, I wonder how it performs in terms of sharpness and AF, a useful comparator would be the PL25.

Many thanks

Have you had a look at the sample images via the link? :)

I don't have the Panasonic Leica 25mm f/1.4 here, unfortunately.

Hi Ian, yes they look good and I am seriously tempted to preorder the Oly 25, I will wait for some reviews, if it performs any thing like the Oly 45mm it will be well worth the asking price.

Best wishes

I suppose the most important one is the SEMA-1 microphone adapter. There is no MIC port on the E-M10.

Others include bluetooth adapter (not needed with the E-M10 as it has wifi), macro lights, secondary EVF (which some like for downwards viewing).

The E-M10 is a really great little camera but it's not what owners of ageing budget E-System DSLRs were hoping for as there is no E-M1 style phase-detect AF to make Four Thirds lenses work properly.

You can borrow mine if you want to do some comparative shots.

It is smaller according to these dimensions.
E-M10: 119.1mm (W) x 82.3mm (H) x 45.9mm (D)

E-M5: 121 mm (W) x 89.6mm (H) x 41.9mm (D)

Also it's interesting that they lowered the flash hotshoe even more (by 4.7mm) than the
Stylus 1: 116.2mm (W) x 87mm (H) x 56.5mm (D)

I don't think Stephen was disagreeing that the E-M10 is smaller but whether or not that was a good thing :)

Olympus Viewer 3 opens E-M10 RAW files by the way - 47 of them you can choose from over at:
