Matthew 4:19 '..and I will make you....

..... the fisheye of men

Hampnett St George (Gloucestershire). Nice Norman church retaining vaulted chancel ceilings. Chancel, chancel arch and sanctuary are close to the original Norman state.

In the late 19'th century the then vicar had the chancel re-decorated (much to the dismay of the congregation, who tried to have him removed) in the original Norman style. A fine effort, nowadays he would be prosecuted for despoiling a 'listed building', but I think (although the colouring is too muted) it was a fine effort.

One of the few times I get the Peleng fish-eye out for church shots, rather like the way the bent chancel arch frames the shot.

And a more general shot of the church interior.

Nick, the fisheye shot is most effective, this lens with its 180' wide angle captures the arch within which one stands and that which lies beyond it. You have interior church photography down to a very fine art. Your exterior shots are also marvellous.

I recently sold a legacy Zuiko 16mm fisheye, F 3.5 (one of two only ever sold in Australia) as I really had no use for it. With an adaptor it would have converted to a 32mm, a focal length covered by 3 of my digital lenses.

I think that's a spectacular shot Nick. The second one is pretty darn good but that wide angle is something else.

Breathtakingly so.

As previously said, breathtakingly beautiful, and the use of the fisheye lens is highly appropriate and works superbly.

Best wishes......Alan

A really good use of the fisheye in number one and the second shot allows us to see the 'real' thing. Thanks

Interesting Nick, I too like the fish eye approach, very effective.
Both shots display a real craft with exposure balance.

Nice treatment of a very attractive little church. Not hitherto a fan of fisheye but the more I see of quality images like this, the more I like the technique.

David

Thanks all

I too have reservations about the fisheye, particularly for interior shots, too often the shot can become about the lens rather than the subject, here there are enough intentional curves in the structure (particularly the vaulted roof). But it'll probably be some time before it's needed again.

The fisheye is not my favourite look but in the right hands and with the right subject can be stunning, both conditions met here in abundance.
