The costs for photography must include a start up cost I reckon.

If all of the other hobbies included the same, I doubt photography would be anywhere near the most costly. *chr

No mention of football....I reckon the cost of a Premier League club season ticket plus travel to away matches would put it right at the top of the list and then there are all the International matches.....

No mention of Golf or Fishing/Angling.
I've known people who spend a fortune on equipment, always after the next best thing to 'improve' themselves. And then they have sky high golf club fees and angling permits of various kinds, ie. day waters, water board licence, club fees etc.

So, we’re all agreed that it’s twaddle!

.... photography is the most expensive hobby to maintain, if you want to become a pro.
That qualifies it a bit! As for football, that's not a hobby, it's a religion :)

Where do they get those figures from?

Are these the same people who fabricate, sorry, calculate the cost of capital projects in this country?

Photography is only expensive if you buy equipment all the time and most of us don't.

I really don't get why playing the piano should be so expensive either. Once you have the instrument it only needs tuning once a year at a cost of about £50 - £75 and should last for at least 50 years if looked after.

As in business accounts, capital costs and the value of fixed assets should be written down over the reasonable service life of the asset, and at no more than the 18% per annum currently allowed by HMRC.

I am also surprised that horse riding costs so little. Assuming the rider purchases a horse, as they would a camera, they would need to stump up the costs of stabling, renting a field or paddock, insurance and feed. Then there are the Vets bills which can be astronomic!

Or sailing for that matter Mark!

'Like standing under a cost shower tearing up £50 notes'. :)

A ‘cost shower’.

I see what you did there!

cost as in cold...………...*chr

As my sailing costs are still (if in luck) are well below £4500, but on the South Coast that could be challenging...…….

I'd put in a bid (bids?) for both Hi-Fi (remember that?) and record collecting. I have spent considerably more than anything on that list on both of these.

One of my hobbies is restoring vintage mopeds it makes photography seem cheap! And that's before running costs are added.
