Tutorial Hi-Res pictures by sticthing

Spurred into action by the announcement of the E-M5ii, I've been playing around a bit with Hugin to stitch a number of images together into one large image and then to find some way to easily display them via the web. I've just done a first attempt with Google Maps Viewer, but it's not ideal:

When the Google Maps Viewer comes up, click the magnification up two levels from the default to get it at native resolution. You'll see that the Google Maps Viewer is a bit clunky and the quality isn't fantastic. I'll keep looking for something better. Is there anyone here already doing this?, or should I do some more dabbling and then explain how it's done?

That's pretty impressive Paul, not only the closer grass & rock details but especially the detail in the houses and the trees in the misty far distance areas. When you are happy I'd love to know what you did and how it compares with a standard straight lower MP shot.

What's your general experience with Hugin? Did you research other options?

I found an alternative to Google Maps Viewer - http://extrazoom.com. Images are limited to 8000x8000 pixels and the viewer is still a bit clunky to use - however, it's better than the Google solution.

Hugin is an amazing tool, free, too. I was a slow learner, have barely got past the first stages, but I love how it allows you to define the stitching points, I.e., the bits that must line up perfectly. one of my earliest mistakes was to stitch images from a different folder than the destination folder. Hugin needs everything under one roof.

I have used the facility in Photoshop to merge images together - I assume that this is the same as what you refer to as Stitching, I then use Pano2VR
to get a steerable zoomable image eg

Cool, how do you combine multiple exposures like this without showing cloud movement/blur as I assume they move slightly from shot to shot?

That pano2vr package looks good - but 69 euros is a bit steep!

snerkler asked how I combine the images etc . I don't - Photoshop does it quite well, on some panoramas it may only use a small bit of an individual frame. I overlap by about a third of the frame so there is plenty of data for the program to select from. On one pano I did there is the trail from a passing plane but the plane has been omitted from the final image.

Paul re cost of Pano2VR - cannot really comment - for me it was a case of I see, I like, I want, I get.

Do I use it commercially - no, but then again do I use my fleet of Macs commercially - no I enjoy messing about with images.
