  • Some events in Cardiff

I hope you don't mind, but a shameless plug for some events in Cardiff that will feature my pictures and my work. These are for the Cardiff Naturalists' Society (wildlife not absence of clothes!) which is 150 years old and I am a former president of.

The first is an exhibition that opens tomorrow at the Cardiff Story Museum (the old library to those who know the place) which I have prepared/repaired all of the old B&W images from glass slides and old 35mm B&W slides

As well as the information panel I have prepared an AV of historical and some of my (and friends) recent pictures of Welsh landscapes and wildlife. the picture research and restoration work has taken literally hundreds of hours as anyone who has done this will know

As well as that I am currently working on an AV of even more welsh landscapes and wildlife which will feature as an introduction when the audience are coming into our"Evening with Iolo Williams"

if you live in the area you are welcome to come to either - the museum is free, but the evening event is ticketed (see the link above for details)

The Exhibition features information about Colonel H. Morrey Salmon, CBE, MC, DL, DSc who has been referred to as "the Father of British bird photography" and who was a long standing member and former president and we have his actual plate camera on show. The Society had a number of early photographers as members and here are a few of them at work (these pictures did not make the exhibition and are un-restored as yet)

Sadly the slides these came from did not have names on them.

if you can't make it you may like to look at the web pages I have created to go with the exhibition

Well... for those who have not met me and wonder what I sound like...

BBC Radio Wales called yesterday asking for an interview about the exhibition and the Society it had to be as early as I could get out of work as I had to go and meet the Lord Mayor at the exhibition opening. The segment is just 4 minutes long you can hear the segment at 54 Minutes 24 seconds in this link

                http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b093wzf3

The program is available for the next 30 days and I really enjoyed their reaction to the last snippet of information I was able to give them - it won't mean much to people who don't live in Wales, but Coryton roundabout is Junction 32 on the M4

                  And another that may interest

I added this page to the CNS website of some of the pictures I have been working on http://cardiffnaturalists.org.uk/htmfiles/150th-09.htm

I so love the 'tash the last owner has... not sure the wife would like me growing one though. I think you have to be of a certain vintage (victorian)

                      Re: Some events in Cardiff

its going well. Still on to November and the feedback from the Museum staff is that its getting some interest.

I admit that the historical records of a local natural History society may not seem the most interesting things, but the more I find out about the history of the people involved the more they fascinate me

                      regards

                          Re: Some events in Cardiff

                          I hope you enjoyed it

We had our next big event last night - a talk by Iolo Williams in the national Museum with an AV showing (mostly my) pictures of Welsh landscapes and Wildlife..

I arranged for them to put in an HD projector because all they had was SD and not very bright at that and the venue was a 320 seater venue so not small

However the ******ing miniport to HDMI adaptor was unreliable and I ended up putting to back to VGA output at the last minute which I could see the difference on, but the people coming in seemed happy enough with

My next laptop is going to have native HDMI output !

                          Regards
