  • eGroup Meetup Fens Falconry BIF meeting?

    Yes I know it's not a falcon

After some discussion here, the consensus is that we need another day out at Fens Falconry, which is near Wisbech, in the Cambridgeshire Fens.

There will be a direct focus on improving BIF photography technique and getting the bottom of the complex Olympus camera settings to aid in achieving a higher keeper rate. Particular attention will be paid to the OM-D E-M1 Mark II but users of all models should be able to benefit. And you will be able to photograph a wide variety of birds of prey.

Andy Elliott, of Olympus birds of prey photography fame, who is an affiliate of Fens Falconry, needs to know how many people would be interested in attending and what the candidate dates are. Currently end of August or beginning of September are on the cards but not set in stone.

So if you can express interest and preferences here, that would be great!

I will update here with further news, including costs and what would be on offer.

You can see what we got up to there in 2014 in the gallery.

    Ian

VERY interested in attending, on holiday the first two weeks of September, (including the three weekends!) so any time except then suits me!

Sorry for the cut and paste from the other thread!

Edit: PS if it's a Tuesday or weekend Mrs Walti may attend too! (other days may be difficult for her)
    I didn’t get where I am today....

I'm OK up till the 4th of September. It was a great day out last time, I've never taken so many shots in one day. As for keepers well that would be telling Hopefully a lot more this time with the mk2. Count me in Ian.

Seems to be a typo - I assume you mean OM-D E-M1 Mark II

Chris is right - my bad; the original debate was dominated by E-M1 II BIF settings and capabilities.

            PS correcting it now.

A stuffed Owl supported by two wires isn't a very good example to set.
It's the image that's important, not the tools used to make it.

Having been involved in protecting a Peregrine nest site from, amongst others, falconers wanting the eggs of wild birds you don't want me anywhere near a falconry centre.

I appreciate the sentiment but I can guarantee that Andy would have nothing to do with an organisation which is irresponsible in any way - this was made clear last time we were there.

Andy told me that a group of ten or a bit more would be ideal.

The first Fens Falconry meet im 2014 was free because they were just setting up and I suppose we were regarded as a rehearsal for paying members of the public. This time there is a fee per person and I'm just waiting for confirmation of that.
