  • Olympus Photo Walks - any experience ?

    I spotted this today http://www.olympus-imagespace.co.uk/...iff-photowalk/

Have any of you been on such and would you recommend the events ?

10 for 2 hours seems steep and unless people think they were really worth it I may not bother

    Regards

I am pretty sure the Oly photo walks used to be free. Jez, I am sure is one of the Oly team in the UK.

I did a photo walk a few years ago, it was a fun half day, but I didn't learn much. If you have any questions on how to use your Oly camera then it would be a good opportunity to speak to an expert.

They were free, but people were booking places and then not turning up on the day, thus preventing people who wanted to go not getting a place.

10 is well worth it in London as the refreshments provided would cost that and the guidance and tips is also well worth the fee.

Well clearly enough people did not consider it good enough value at 10.00 so it's now free

So I am now going and if anyone else is - please say Hi

We are on the morning one too, and we do love Cardiff, but haven't been for ages!

We might be calling in to see a friend's new baby in the afternoon, not 100% sure yet. Is your wife also on the photowalk?

Amanda. Sorry its just me. The boss has other plans that day

Cindy. The details are sketchy. As I read it, it starts in the shop from 9 with a walk at about 10.

Re: Olympus Photo Walks - any experience ?

On a related note I see that Rob Pugh, who used to be an 'Olympus Visionary' is showing signs of moving to Sony as a 'Brand Ambassador'. I've been on a couple of street photo walks with Rob over the years, which were excellent and would have been worth a lot more than 10 quid.

He's removed most of the Olympus references from his site (although not his OMD gear list) and is talking about being a Brand Ambassador without actually naming Sony. He's also done some blog posts about Sony gear recently.
                      Regards,
                      Mark

it was excellent - thanks to jez and the Camera Centre team who hosted us and I certainly learned how to use some of the features of the 1MkII I had not got around to looking at yet.

Lovely to meet up with Mr and MrsT and of course Cinders.

This is just a quick mobile post. I'll hopefully get time to share pictures later

As stated it was a fun session and I did learn a few features

There was very little time to think - just learn the lesson, try it and move on to the next, but very useful all the same

                              Techniques demonstrated included ...

                              B&W settings

Art Filters - most agreed they do have a use if only to help understanding of what is possible

In Camera Photo Stacking (I've shown 1st, last and composite) hand held in a hurry, but its clear the principle works - note though the final image is clearly cropped in

                              Selective colour

Note to self turn the screen in when not using it this 1MkII eats battery like there is no tomorrow compared to my Old E-30

So All in all it was worth it at the price I could have had to pay, but I think Oly made the right call in making them free even if people don't always turn up. I did end up bringing a new UHS-II SD card home & 3rd battery so the shop got something out of it
