I signed up for a trial ages ago. I decided I wasn't going to use it enough to justify the cost but at the end of the trial Amazon had taken the full amount from my saved Credit Card without any further warning.
I didn't consider I might have been able to get my money back which was silly of me.
If you plan on trying then cancelling then keep a sharp eye on the timescales, I didn't get any warning that the trial was about to expire or I'd have acted.

That just about summarises my guess - it's likely you can get some of your subs back.

My daughter has a student account and we all use it. It does mean everyone with access to the account can see what is being purchased or watched (movies). Not ideal for family gifts!

But in general I find Amazon Prime very useful indeed.

I am sensitive to the concern that online shopping is bad for out high streets, but I feel that boat sailed a long time ago and we need to totally rethink the idea of town centres.

That's the thing - I took the trial after being badgered quite a lot with email and direct mail in the post so I gave in before a Christmas.
I took it out and found the TV/Movies and music weren't of much interest and I had very little use for the delivery perks.

I was annoyed they just took the money with no notification but figured it was my own fault. I should have looked into getting it refunded but it didn't really occur to me at the time. The year confirmed for me it wasn't worth the money but everyone is different

I was 'lucky?' because despite cancelling an Amazon Prime free trial, they continued to (accidentally) charge me up to two times a month for it.

Then they finally (accidentally) refunded twice as much as they' overcharged me, so I stopped complaining. Amazon are a real shambles sometimes.

David I hope Olympus do that as they charged me twice for my MC-20!
They are currently looking into it, I've got my fingers crossed.

People on here frequently comment about local camera shops closing down. The main cause is Amazon.

I have had no choice some times to use Amazon but signing up to Amazon Prime is one step I won't be taking. Amazon trick (in fact force) you to sign up to Prime and then it takes endless steps to get out of it.

I am certainly not planning on taking their offer.

I'm in total agreement ! Amazon is a total blight on the UK economy and anyone dealing with them or promoting their services simply helps to fund their unethical business practices.

We have to accept that online shopping is here to stay, so why shouldn't sites like this gain a small benefit when members make purchases from Amazon? Personally I'm fed up with driving 20 miles to our nearest large town only to find that half the items I am interested in comparing are out of stock!

I agree that the High Street needs help and this should include scrapping business rates and parking charges, but some shops need to up their game too!

I agree some shops need to up their online game but they have a global competitor who does not pay its fair share for the use of all the infrastructure in the UK. Business rates are an outdated form of tax. Perhaps its time the UK adopted a sales tax model instead. It would balance the playing field with Amazon and give the UK more tax revenue to maintain roads etc.

I do know that there is some antipathy towards Amazon, but they aren't going away and it would be churlish for me to boycott them. I perfectly understand everyone's individual opinion and feeling on the matter.
