  • 'Looking for perfection' forum is now 'Looking for improvement'

    Hi Everyone

Just a heads up for you all. New name for the Looking for perfection forum.

    Looking for improvement:
    http://e-group.uk.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=22

Over the years, there seems to have been some confusion as to the purpose and objective of what was termed the 'Looking for perfection' forum. People were often confused as to what this was really for, and so after a great suggestion by BobS, I have discussed this with Ian and we have decided to change the name of this forum to 'Looking for improvement'. The description of the forum remains the same, but hopefully this will clear up any confusion relating to what the forum is about.

To further clarify: the Looking for improvement forum, is where a photographer posts an image and is happy for anyone, regardless of experience etc, to post comments and feedback on the submitted image.

So, if you see an image in the newly named LFI, there really is no need to feel you are not qualified to comment on it. The photographer will have posted the image in the hope of receiving lots of comments and constructive criticism that he/she can decide to take on board, or not, as the case may be. So please do comment, especially on images in this newly named forum.

    Thanks all.
    John

Great modification. Can you just change the blurb inside the banner to reflect this?

Re: 'Looking for perfection' forum is now 'Looking for improvement'

I have already posted this on the Brighton Bandstand thread where this idea germinated, but I'll repeat it here:

Good move to rename this board; while 'Looking for Perfection' is what it's all about, 'perfection' is subjective, but basically this board is all about posting photos to generate third party constructive comment aimed at helping the poster to find useful advice on improving the picture where possible - or condensed down to one single word: 'critique'.

Don't be afraid to post comments. One thing that is undeniably true is that it is much easier to appreciate other people's work than to create your own. Your opinion is very useful. Without adequate feedback a consensus is difficult to form. Especially if you don't like something, that feedback is very valuable. Naturally, be as respectful and polite as possible when providing feedback.

For those wishing to post their images for feedback here - do be prepared for comment that you may not agree with and respect such comments as long as they are well meant and polite. If you feel you won't cope well with negative comment, then it's probably best not to post your work here.

Other advice - critique forums work best if you limit each thread to a single image (or at least one shot and maybe several different workings of that shot, or maybe several slightly different images). If you post several images in one thread, especially very different ones, it's difficult to focus on particular points.

Above all - image posters and commenters - try not to be put off!

It's only a change of wording, but that one word makes all the difference....!

Nice one! I think I'll feel more qualified to comment in future.
