  • Win an iPad!

Yes, we're giving an iPad away this month on this site's sibling site, Digital Photography Now (DPNow.com)

And ten LiveDrive online backup and storage service accounts.

I have been trying out LiveDrive for a few weeks now and I think it's potentially very useful, especially for photographers. You get unlimited storage and the LiveDrive software keeps your files (including photos) synchronised between PC and online store.

The main issue is getting your files up onto your Livedrive space in the first place. It has taken me three weeks of almost constant uploads to get 70GB of files uploaded via my home and office Internet connections (around 700kbits upload speed) although this takes place transparently in the background. If you have a fair usage policy or bandwidth limit on your service it could be a problem if you are uploading a huge amount of data. Happily, you can control which folders are synchronised and manage the amount of data you wish to upload.

If you can access high speed internet via your work or conference centres, etc., then the uploads take a lot less time.

So if you want to have a chance of winning an Apple iPad or one of ten Livedrive accounts, check the competition page here:

    http://dpnow.com/7558.html

If that's not all, you can open a new Livedrive account this month for 25% off the standard price, see:

    Good luck!

You do know that some of us IT / Networking types monitor that sort of thing for inappropriate bottleneck causing don't you ...

I remember a chat with a guy who was streaming radio into our site and came out in the top 10 network users ... after a chat he still came out on top so I had another chat ... the result was he'd changed from streaming it to downloading everything he wanted 1st thing in the day ... Site duly blocked !

I'm not saying don't - just consider it before someone like me taps you on the shoulder

So presumably you'd get away with it as you're unlikely to tap yourself on the shoulder!

        I'm saying nowt...

However I have more bandwidth at home than we do at work (cheapskates!) so it's not very likely

          Re: Win an iPad!

I connect into all sorts of networks when I travel around and some hotels have really fast connections, and the Press Centre at Photokina last month had a blisteringly fast network - I uploaded a 100MB video file to YouTube in less than a minute. Of course the server at the other end needs to be fast too!
