It's actually designed as a lens hood. It's a Lenscoat Large Travel Hood and is designed to fold flat for packing.

The company does actually make a couple of useful products, the travel hoods and hoodie lens caps. The XXL lens cap is far superior to the stupid two zips to take off and two zips to put on leatherette cap that Olympus supplied with the 350mm.

A correction, Lenscoat say that it will fold nearly flat for packing. I've found that wrapping it around an empty ground coffee canister helps it stay round and you can put stuff in the coffee canister for extra protection from baggage hurlers.

If you fold it nearly flat you can spend some time trying to get it round again when it's on the lens.
