  • e-group Picture of the Day!

We now have over 9,000 pictures on the e-group.uk.net gallery so why not celebrate this with a Picture of the Day feature? I'd like to involve our readers (you! ) too. From next Monday, we will open a new forum board that will be the home for e-group Pictures of the Day and I need you to help select these special images from the gallery.

If you have a nomination for Picture of the Day, either send a link to the gallery page where it can be found via Private Mail here on the forum, or email forum-admin@e-group.uk.net. The best chance to get your nomination published is to include a detailed, but not over-long, description of your reasons for nominating that image.

I look forward to your nominations!

    Ian

PS We're going to do the same thing on our gener Four Thirds site, Four Thirds User
PPS We do the Picture of the Day differently on our other site, Digital Photography Now - please do visit the site and examine this month's DPNow POTDs there.

I can ask the first stupid question.

Do you mean we choose/vote for any one of those 9,000+ pictures or will you be adding a special folder for pictures to go into for voting?

Choose a fave picture, then contact me with a few words about why you like it and, fingers crossed, it will be featured in a new forum category for POTDs.

There is no voting as such - I'm looking for personal nominations.

Much better than me choosing them

Re: use the Favourites feature in the gallery

Here is something you may not realise you have in the gallery to keep track of images you like.

At the bottom of each image when displayed is a set of small icons. Hover your mous pointer over them and each one's function will be revealed.

One is 'Add to Favourites' - click on that under the picture you like and it will be copied to a special album of yours called 'Favourites'. On top of that the owner of the picture will get a note telling them that you have added their image to your Favourites.

          Why not try it?

            Ian,

I thought of using "Favourites" as a place to hold images to sort out the ones I'd nominate. However I can't seem to find a way to remove them from favorites. What am I missing

Under each thumbnail of pix in your Favourites album you will see a 'remove' link. Just click on this and the picture is removed from your Favourites album.

I still couldn't see that, untill I switched to "Gallery" view mode, then hey-presto, it all became so b******g obvious.

As always, thanks for the help.

Hi Ian, this was a very handy tip, as i found out the icon on the far right was used to display all the exif info, i wondered how people were doing that! -Cliff

How about this as a candidate for POTD. Such beautiful colours with a lovely simple composition. A great shot imho from Krzysztof Kaliczak

I have looked for Krzysztof Kaliczak and cannot find it.

It's the first one in Ian's gallery - one of the competition entries from last year I think.

I just saw it when I logged on, it was the gallery showcase picture. I just thought it was such a superb image it deserved POTD. Didn't read the thread close enough to see I should have emailed rather than posted though, sorry Ian.
