  • VERY early morning stroll

Made a VERY early visit back to Ashridge. One or two bluebells were out so I took a few close ups. Also played with the blur effect again, but this time I emphasised the pathway.

    The Bluebell I like.

But the pathway through the trees - well, that's something else! Really stunning, it would make a great wall print on canvas, extra large. Superb! What was your technique for this?

Create 3 layers, apply vertical motion blur to each, 800, 600 and 400.
The key to this image is the selective erasing of various areas to show different amounts of blur.
For the pathway I took it back to the original layer and then faded the eraser effect until it looked how I imagined.

I then dodged and burned to show the effect of the early morning sunlight and emphasise the pathway.

      Merge all layers when happy.

Created levels and curves adjustment layers and adjusted the saturation again until I got the effect I wanted.
Finally a small amount of sharpening using USM.

Sorry if this is a bit garbled. I tend to play with layers and sliders until I get the effect I want, its not premeditated.

Hope this is of interest and helps.

Hi Shirley. I think they are both superb, and really worth the early start. The light on the bluebells is sublime. I've also got to say from I joined in November I have really noticed your proficiency soar. Very inspirational!

        David.

I think the path shot is terrific. Will try that technique myself but there is no guarantee that the result will be as arresting.

                  Well done Shirley
I agree with the comments of the others. I liked the original trees image but your latest shot is an improvement over that. As for your comment 'Sorry if this is a bit garbled. I tend to play with layers and sliders until I get the effect I want, its not premeditated.'. That is what any artist does, with a brush or with editing software. It's the personal touch and if you please others with the results, then job well done!

Thank you everybody for your encouraging replies. I have tried printing both of them today. The bluebell looks great at A3 but the trees do not look good at all when printed, cant work out why but I am persevering with it.
