On reflection

Hi,
here's a recent capture taken at the dockside in Liverpool. Minimal amount of processing applied in LR.

Any suggestions on how this could be improved would be warmly welcome, and appreciated, as I'm a complete and utter novice when it comes to LR (and photography for that matter .

Mmmm. I think I 'd crop the RHS off to just to the right of the hinge (i.e. about a third off). The foreground (for me) takes the attention from the reflection a bit too much, IMHO.

I'd echo what Keith said, crop 1/3 off turning it into a portrait, but keep the metal bit in the FG.

Now you mention it - ouch! Missed it before! Can't stop being drawn to it now..... But definitely better composition IMHO.

Clone tool, scalpel, sutures...

I didn't notice that pesky little duck until it appeared in PP.
I agree it needs to be got rid of, I wonder what's the best tool to deal with it.
I have LR 5.7 and Elements 11. Haven't got much a clue with either, to be honest, it's definitely the weakest link in my photographic ability.

I would have thought a few seconds with the clone tool in elements would do it.

Or even the clone tool in Lr. It does a quick copy and paste. You don't want to make the circle too big, though; just enough. It's in the RH panel, in a row of six symbols under the histogram, second from left. They call it Spot Overlay.

Failing that, try a shotgun.

Thanks for the info Keith, I'll give that a go.

Yeah, too late for the shotgun, but one of those compressed air horns might get me into less bother, could be a great photographic accessory to disperse unwanted birds, and to gain attention where necessary.

A good quality whistle is cheaper and easier to hide but remember to look round to see who blew it rather than sitting smug a dead give away.

Of course you could try a silent dog whistle, too (if you follow the Perishers, you'll know what I'm saying!) No one would have any idea what had happened with one of those..!
