E-5; 50-200 Birds in flight

This was taken at Henley Flowerpot PH .

1. It is not processed; only saved as Jpeg and made small for here - NO CROP !



from exif : 0.001 sec (1/2000); f/3.5; Aperture-priority AE; ISO 160; 200 mm Infinity ; Metering ESP; Focus C-AF

Where possible I try to keep ISO down as I hate the noise

2. This morning I found this shot and played with it a little in Corel

Hence : I believe this has bought out far more of the plumage detail ... I usually use CO6 to sharpen etc., but have not (yet)



and for a bit more fun

3. Because it was too early to wake Nick with his breakfast in bed ...




So what do you all think ? How could I improve on 1. the original shot - in camera ?

and what do you think of 2 and 3 ???

im a novice in photography but,

i love this shot, the second picture is does reduce the shadows but i dont liike the light blue around the bird, may i save the picture and post how i would edit it ?

No. 1 I like, the halo around the bird on No.2 kills it for me.

Shane, please do ! I too dislike the shadows ... thinking it best to remove blue background to srt with ... then process

great well this is a fast enhance .. i would take a little more time if it was my own image, but this removed the shadows without the leaving the light blue glow ..

It's a great capture Chevvy, one to be proud of. As the OP say, the processing halo in #2 detracts from it.

Although I see them almost daily I have all but given up on capturing a good shot of a bird of prey of this size in flight, or perched, as I never seem to be able to get close enough.

Lovely Red Kite shot Chevvy. I've only seen them when I travel down the M40 to London and hence never been able to get a shot. Didn't like the PP'd ones though but I'd love to see what you can do with it in CO6.

Wow in the time it took me to type my post those shots turned up. Thats definitely a smart edit Paul certainly brings out the plumage.
Ian that's a nice shot as it is but why not ask Paul to add a bit of PP magic to yours too.

Mark, sometimes I just observe them, intending to capture a shot or two, but forgetting to press the button sometimes it is about just enjoying these birds in flight, swirling above my head on a thermal or trying to catch a thermal ... oh! what a marvellous world we live in

Phill, and Ian, anyone ... TREAT YOURSELF, come down for the night and stay at the Flowerpot, Henley - (best is sunday or BH monday when they have lots of "leftovers" - a wheelbarrow load) get up at 5 or 6 am and go down with the Landlord to "feed his chickens" in the field just past the pub ... take 3 batteries minimum, and as many chips as you can for an hours most AMAZING FUN ... about 50-70 wild Red Kites come in for the FEAST and DIVE bomb attack the chickens ... (must dig out some of those shots) then back to the PH brekkers and on the road to Londinium ... for work with the BIGGEST GRIN YOU HAVE EVER WORN
