    Snaar snaps: Village in winter

    Well, here we are back at work. What has happened to the weather this winter eh? Speaking with a village resident today "winter tyres?" has become the talking point after two weeks of snow and ice.

    Anyway, to start a new year, here is the village church from the south after the recent snows.



    This morning, bitterly cold, the trees were covered in frost against a lovely blue sky. Here is Jim Crow in the top branches catching some early sun.



    Across the fields we see the copse half dusted in frost at lunchtime*.



    And here is a wooden gate after a week of hard frosts!

    *In fact this was taken at full stretch overhead. This is one where the swinging screen on the 620 came in handy.

        No recent pictures: It has been very difficult getting to the village to work for some time*. In fact it has been so difficult that the village ("highest in Hampshire") had a visit from a local TV crew yesterday, and a spot on local TV news last night.

        Edit: This is probably unrelated to last night's TV report, but I just went out and caught Hampshire Council delivering a retrospective pile of salt on the village green :-)

        The road is finally clear, but in case you thought it was all over, here is the winter fodder delivery this morning. Spring is clearly not here yet...

        *If it plans on doing this every year I am sore tempted to buy a little Fiat Panda 4x4. Great in the snow and as mad as a Box of Frogs, apparently :-)

          Nice set of images. Thanks for showing the area. When I first looked at the grave stones, I thought the cold had heaved them from one shot to the next, but then realized that it was two diferent shots.

              Out and about today for a weekend walk, on the Wayfarers Way about a mile from the village. Just a few other walkers, otherwise it was deserted. We did find a 2 foot snowdrift still hanging in in the shadow of a hedge up there despite the warmer weather.

              BTW - The 14-54 is getting all the attention at present :-)

                What a contrast to the wind and sunshine yesterday: Today produced cold thick fog, and silence apart from trees dripping.

                  The fog seems to be working just as well as the snow. These are very "atmospheric" and very nice - it's a style I've not mastered at all and I like these

                    I think the important thing about fog pictures is to get an object in the foreground, something quite close that has some dark tones. That puts the rest of the picture in context.

                    Otherwise it just looks like a film thats been, er, fogged.

                        All fine shots, as ever, but going back a day, I really like the sunbeam shot. There are a lot of big vistas like that in Northumberland, but we don't see enough of the light bulb.

                              The snow came and went again in Newbury, but up here on the Downs, the snow was deeper and the air stays just that bit colder.

                              So there are still some nice sights to snap:
