  • Vikings and Fireworks

Our village has been adopted by a local group of Viking re-enactors.

They come in the summer and camp and do battle
For Guy Fawkes Night they parade from the pub to the playing fields where they light the bonfire and fight each other before the fireworks.

A ridiculous challenge for any camera, taking photos almost in the dark against sodium lights mixed with fluorescent tubes and torches so I'll convert to B&W for the pub.

Fireworks using my own settings were dreadful so these are using the camera's own scene setting.
No tripod in use and it was cold and raining so there's some ghosting etc. due to camera shake.
Hardly surprising at 4 second exposure

A good job under very tricky conditions. There's nothing like a bit of pillagin' in the village inn!

Thanks - monochrome hides a multitude of ISO3200 sins

Many thanks for the kind comments.

All the fireworks shots are guesswork as you don't know what they're letting off next or how it will appear so it's press+pray

I'd recommend the Fireworks SCN mode rather than faffing around.
I always kid myself I won't spend the display playing with the camera then miss half of it trying to select settings by intuition in the dark. At least this time I did get some keepers!

Ask them it they'd do a re-enactment of the Battle of Stanford Bridge; when they come over in 200 ships and the survivors went back in 20, carrying their dead king!
