December's CHALLENGE
The topic to inspire your creative juices this month is BOXES Please don't forget to vote on November's LEAVES challenge and please re-vote if you already did but before the recent forum upgrade.
This form of attachment dates back to at least the 40s and was used in the De Havilland Goblin - the first gas turbine military engine to gain type approval, and used in the D.H. Vampire. Also the D.H Ghost, which was used in the D.H. Venom and also was the first gas turbine to gain civilian type approval, when it was used in the original Comet.
D.H. were great pioneers, but like many pioneers hit unforeseen problems, such as metal fatigue in the Comet. Little was known about metal fatigue at the time and the extensive research following the Comet disasters benefited the whole industry.
I'd like to visit, but it's 120 miles for me - well outside the M25!

But that is really a lovely set of photos. I love the old Bristol Fighter. We have one here in Queensland that appears to do the rounds of the air shows.
