  • Trials of being a Kingfisher

It was bright and breezy at Strumpshaw Fen yesterday and I watched this Kingfisher perched on a post being buffeted by the wind. After about ten minutes it suddenly dived and returned with a long strand of weed, probably not what it intended! It sat there for several more minutes before suddenly diving again. This time it returned to its perch with a small fish. Success of sorts.

It surprised me when it suddenly dived after being inactive for so long, so I didn't think of switching to shutter priority for a faster speed. I have great respect for people who can photograph these quick birds in action.

    E-M1 II, 300mm f4 and MC-14.

    Nice sequence and pictures.

I agree with you regarding respect for people catching these wonderful birds in action, especially in flight shots.

Many thanks for your kind comments Keith, OM and Mark and for all your 'likes'.

When I first looked at the sixth photo I thought that the Kingfisher had found some discarded fishing tackle. I was relieved when I realised that it was just weed.
